Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out playing guitar and bass in a heavy metal band called Gravity Sleeps from 2001-2004. In 2004 I started writing and recording on Pro Tools. I was apart of a 3 man group called Eucalyptus which I split from in 2007. 2008-2011 was spent creating my first album “Battery Acid” and my first mixtape “Suburban Legend” was released in 2012. I have since released Lost Verses in 2014, Kush & Ciroc in 2016, Russian King in 2018 and Lost Verses 2 in 2020. My 2nd original album was released in 2019 on digital streaming platforms called “Half Man Half Machine”. After this I recorded 10 songs and a skit which ended up being my 3rd album P.M.W. which was released in July of 2022 while I was homeless. I was living on the streets and in shelters from 2020-2023. In 2023 I finally got an apartment in Maryland and I have released Thieves World in September of 2025, my 4th all original album and 3rd on DSP’s. I’m currently working on my 5th album “Thieves World 2” with production from Scott Storch on the hit single “The Struggle is Over”. I’m also working on a 6th mixtape called “The Last Mixtape” also coming this year 2026. Big things are coming soon I have developed some BIG contacts!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was definitely not smooth. I was homeless from 2020-2023. This was definitely the biggest struggle I have endured
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I specialize in is having fun, using creative English, metaphors, similes and puns to make my bars as dope as possible. I try to showcase my skills but also want my fans to dance and have fun and enjoy themselves. Ty Smitty is all about having fun with music. Which doesn’t mean I don’t take my work seriously. My audio quality and lyrics I put up with the best of them, as I am my harshest critic.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
My rap career has been all about taking risks. Spending money on studio time when I was homeless and continuing to put out 10 projects on a basic budget shows my love and passion for the sport and the hip hop community. If I didn’t take the risk of investing all my money in my career I wouldn’t be where I am now. I actually make money from my streams, shows, royalties, physical sales and merch so investing into those products were crucial in taking my career to the next level. I don’t regret it one bit
