Rising Stars: Meet Marissa Harmon of Maryland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Harmon.

Hi Marissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started our food page on my 30th birthday while we were in Miami. We were trying some amazing restaurants, taking tons of food pictures, and I wanted somewhere to keep all of those memories, so I created an Instagram that was basically a food diary. Going out to eat and trying new foods has always been a way of us bonding as a couple.

From there, it just kept growing. We realized how much we loved trying new places and sharing them with others. Once we were back home, we started focusing more on the Baltimore food scene and surrounding areas, with the goal of discovering great restaurants and supporting local businesses. What started as a fun little food diary has turned into something we’re really proud of.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing content creation with our full-time jobs and everyday life. There’s a lot more that goes into creating content than people realize, from filming and hours editing to staying consistent and keeping up with social media.

We’ve also had to learn not to compare our growth to other creators and to just focus on what works for us. There have been frustrating moments, but overall we’ve tried to stay consistent, keep learning, and remember why we started in the first place, the love for good food and community.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We create food and lifestyle content focused mainly on Baltimore and the surrounding DMV area. We love highlighting restaurants, local businesses, new openings, events, and experiences that we think others will enjoy.

I think what sets us apart is that we try to keep our content very real and approachable. We’re not trying to make every restaurant sound like the best place ever, we just want to let others know whats out there and like theyre getting recommendations from friends. I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built with local businesses and the fact that our page has grown from a simple food diary into something people actually use to decide where they want to eat and what they want to do.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
A lot of my inspiration comes from social media itself. I’m constantly discovering new (and old) restaurants, editing ideas, and other creators through Instagram and TikTok. I also use apps like Edits and CapCut to create and improve our content. One of the biggest resources has just been learning by trying new ways to display delicious dishes, seeing what works, and connecting with other creators and local businesses along the way.
