Rising Stars: Meet Danna Wimbush of Maryland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danna Wimbush.

Hi Danna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family is a little older so I use to help my mom prepare holiday meals. As she became older, I took over the family tradition. Holiday dinners became a thing at my house. Shortly thereafter, I decided to challenge myself and decided to start baking. It was basic cookies from scratch, pies, cakes and eventually cupcakes. Each year I improved my techniques and was voted by my family as the “most improved “ as far as cooking and baking.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road. Some if my earlier struggles was getting the word out. Mastering the different flavors, texture and technique which is very important. My husband played a huge role in my journey as he is my biggest advocate. Everywhere he would go, he would promote my cupcakes.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a DC government employee full-time. I’m a Supervisory Homeless Coordinator and I work with the homeless population. I work part-time at a shelter. I specialize in compliance. I’m known for being meticulous, most people would say I am always positive and I try to see the good in everybody and every situation. My family says that I show my love through cooking and baking. I’m most proud of my family. My success is measured in seeing others happy. I’m most proud of my resilience and never giving up on my dreams. My craft is what sets me apart from others.

How do you define success?
Success means building strong relationships and friendships with the community, developing my skills and talents, and pushing past boundaries by letting go of the fear of the unknown. Each day I learn something new about myself that helps me grow into a better version of who I am. No matter the obstacles I face, I remain committed to moving forward and never giving up.
