Meet Tiffany Spithas of Maryland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Spithas.

Hi Tiffany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted dance to be a part of my life. What I didn’t know was exactly what that would look like. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to travel and pursue dance professionally, or if my path would lead me toward teaching and creating a place of my own.
I decided to take a chance and travel for dance, and I absolutely loved the experience. It challenged me, inspired me, and gave me so many incredible memories. But somewhere along the way, I realized that traveling wasn’t where I was meant to stay. I knew something else was waiting for me.
So, I came home and began figuring out what my next chapter would look like. I taught at two different studios while working other jobs, learning as much as I could about teaching, choreography, and what it truly meant to connect with dancers. Eventually, I decided to fully invest myself in Impact as the modern and technique teacher.
Three years later, I was given an opportunity that changed my life. I was offered the position of studio director, with the possibility of eventually taking ownership. I was incredibly excited—and honestly, scared out of my mind. Owning a dance studio was a huge leap, but deep down, I knew it was the leap I was supposed to take.
So I took it.
Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
As Impact grew, we eventually outgrew our space in the Kentlands. While it was bittersweet to leave the space where so many memories had been made, I knew it was time for something bigger. I was ready to create a home for Impact that truly reflected what I wanted it to be.
Building my own studio has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have had the opportunity to create more than just a beautiful space for dancers to train. I have been able to create a place where my students can dance, grow, express themselves, and most importantly, be free to be who they are.
That is what Impact Performing Arts means to me.
Impact is fully devoted to providing dancers of all ages with an encouraging and supportive environment where they are given the opportunity to grow and excel in their dance education. We strive to provide the highest quality of dance training while nurturing each student’s unique gifts, talents, and creativity.
But for me, dance has never been just about technique, performance, or competition. It is about the person behind the dancer.
I want my students to become confident, independent, and well-rounded individuals. I want to support them as they grow—not only as artists, but academically, personally, and emotionally. I want them to leave Impact with more than stronger technique. I want them to leave knowing who they are, believing in themselves, and understanding that their individuality is their greatest strength.
At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that every student has something special to offer. We recognize and celebrate their creativity, individuality, and unique strengths. Through the power of dance, we encourage our students to become their own best teachers—to trust themselves, find their own voice, and take ownership of their growth.
I see my role not simply as a dance teacher, but as someone who helps young people discover what they are capable of.
My journey with Impact started because I knew I wanted to dance. It has grown into something I never could have imagined—a community, a family, and a home where dancers can feel safe, supported, and free.
And I think that may be the most important lesson my journey has taught me: sometimes, the path you think you are supposed to take isn’t the path that leads you where you belong. Sometimes, you have to take a leap, trust yourself, and build the place you were meant to create.
For me, that place is Impact

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business always comes with its challenges and obstacles, and there have definitely been moments that have tested me along the way. But I have never had to face them alone.
I am incredibly grateful to have an amazing team who stands beside me, supports me, and helps me navigate the challenges that come with running a studio. Their dedication, hard work, and belief in Impact mean more to me than I can put into words.
I am also beyond blessed to have a family that supports me every step of the way. They believe in my vision, encourage me through the hard moments, and would do absolutely anything for me and for my Impact family. Having that kind of love and support is something I never take for granted.
Impact truly is a team effort, and I am so thankful for every person who helps make it what it is.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I admire that I am able to have my own creative process while also getting to collaborate with others. This gives my students the opportunity to learn from people with different teaching styles and creative backgrounds, further enhancing their growth and skills. When students engage with diverse educators, they gain insights that challenge their thinking and inspire innovative approaches. This blend of individual creativity and collective input creates a richer learning environment where ideas can flourish. I also find that working alongside others helps me refine my own methods and discover new techniques that I might not have considered on my own. This continuous exchange of ideas motivates both me and my students to push our boundaries.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My most important lesson learned throughout this journey is that Impact is so much more than a dance studio. Yes, it is a place where my students learn how to dance, grow, and express themselves, but it has become so much more than that.
Impact is a place where my students can truly be themselves. It is their safe space—a place where they can feel accepted, supported, and free to express who they are without judgment. Most importantly, it is a place where they build friendships, create memories, and become part of a family that they can carry with them for years to come.
My students need a place where they feel safe, where they can be free, and where they know they belong. And I am so grateful that Impact can be that place for them
