Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Rachael.
Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began taking photographs and capturing moments as far back as I can remember.
I got a camera for Christmas one year as a little girl and I remember jumping up and down with excitement as I unwrapped this treasured gift.
In a time before cell phones, I carried that camera around taking photos of whatever spoke to me.
As I entered high school I took every class offered for photography, developing film in the dark room and feeling like I was making magic happen.
When it was time to take the next step in life I did not have much of a direction and I did not think photography could take me far so I majored in Psychology while starting a little side hustle of portrait photography.
I remember graduating college and still not really knowing what to do. I always had a camera in my hand and many people telling me I could that for a living. So I decided to look into what that actually meant.
I fell in love with newborn photography and was told ” you can not make a living just doing that, you have to take on any photography job that comes your way.” And in that moment I thought to myself, “Watch me.”
I spent the next two years working full time while having my own baby and building a photography studio based on maternity and newborn photography. Eventually I was fully booked and making enough to quit my job and focus on doing what I loved.
My own life took a turn and a messy divorce changed the way I saw the world and the people I was photographing. I decided I need a little less studio posing and a little more ‘real world’ beauty in my work.
I took on branding photography and travled and photographed different parts of the world for a local coffee shop who sourced beans from all over. I found beauty every where I looked, even in the most run down parts of the world.
Here is where I fell in love with travel and the world of travel photography, which has led me to curate my own line of framed travel art for homes and businesses to display. I enjoyed using my art to really tell a story in a space and then to transform that room into a space that feels like deep breath. This path led me to adding interior decorating and plant designing to my list of creative services that I offer.
As I have grown and weathered different journeys in life, my professional career has grown with me. I think that is one of the beautiful things about being an entrepreneur – your brand reflects your story. I now see myself as a photographer that can tell your story and turn it into part of the story in your home or your business, while creating the most beautiful spaces for you to just BE in.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Owning your own business is a hustle every single day.
Every day I wonder if I am doing enough, working hard enough, making the right connections.
Every day I wonder if I have spread myself too thin.
As a single mom as well, I also walk that line of heavy mom guilt. Balancing running a business and a brand and being present for your children is an every day struggle. Some says I think I nailed it and other days I remind myself that tomorrow I can try again.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in capturing the feelings of a moment or beauty in life that other’s may walk right by.
I have a unique talent that allows me to not only capture these moments and things, but to know how to bring them into a space to use them as part of the decor/story in a room. Photographs are not meant to sit on a ‘camera roll’, they are meant to be seen and felt. By combining my photography talent with my interior styling and framed travel art, I am not only providing a service but a whole feeling and telling a story in your space.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
