Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Maye.
Hi Sandra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
BALTIMORE — Our Recipes Cafe & Catering
The restaurant is on Sulphur Spring Road in Arbutus and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8a.m. to 4:40p.m. Located in the heart of Baltimore’s Arbutus neighborhood. Our Recipes Café is a nostalgic blend of coffee house vibes, neighborhood convene and Grandma’s home cooking.
“We serve a southern cuisine with a modern twist. Our specialty is Crab Shrimp and Grits, Catfish and Grits, Chicken & Waffles, Hearty Breakfast Combos, Honey Crunch French Toast, Crab Cakes, Catfish, and other Seafoods. We also have an array of burgers that we make in house. One of our signature burgers is the O’Rave Burger which is the perfect blend of ground pork and ground beef. Our signature dessert is a Kahlua Bread Pudding with Peaches and Walnuts, drizzled with our homemade caramel sauce. We have Catfish Sandwiches and a Louisiana Po Boy and Rich Boy Sandwiches. We also serve breakfast all day so our clients can get an array of eggs, cream chipped beef and specialty breakfast combos.
Chef Maye started cooking with her great grandmothers, grandmothers, great aunts and aunts, when she was 8 years old in Cobham, Virginia which is on the outskirts of Charlottesville, Virginia. She has always enjoyed cooking and learned from who she considers the best. Their unique flavors of southern cuisine are what Chef Maye cherishes and combines those flavors with her take of modern cuisine.
Chef has a great team of chefs and servers at Our Recipes Café that continue to support the business. Chef Richard and Chef Cookie are her right-hand support system and of course Cory who is the dishwasher/cleaner/fix it man is a tremendous support system as well.
The Arbutus community has supported Our Recipes Café & Catering since we opened our doors in November 2019. It was a struggle with the Covid19 Pandemic, but with much prayer and patronage support, they survived. Sandra and her husband Joe love talking with the customers when they sit in and eat at the café. “We love meeting new people and getting to know them” “We have dedicated customers who dine with us weekly and sometimes daily” Chef Maye loves to hear the customers talk about how the comfort food makes them feel like they are eating in their grandmother’s kitchen. We currently maintain a 5 star on Yelp, Trip Advisor, Facebook and Google and voted the best restaurant in Arbutus by Guru for the past 3 years.
We had a setback in the winter of 2022 when the pipes froze and burst. We were closed for several months and our clients checked on us daily to see if they could support us in any way. We are so grateful for them.
Some of our catering clients include M&T Stadium Ravens Office, UMBC Women’s Soccer Team and Men’s Baseball Team, Towson University Women’s Basketball Team, University of Maryland Medical Systems, BGE, Cobbin State University, Ambrose Funeral Home, DLA Piper Law Firm, Amicable – St. John’s Lodge #25, Howard County Lodge, Home First Title Group, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Holy Church of Nativity in Arbutus, MD, New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown, Maryland and Friends from Frostburg State University. We have participated in Black Restaurant and Maryland Restaurant Week and 1021 BMW PGA Championship.
We pray that Our Recipes Café & Catering will be around for years so that new clientele will have the opportunity to enjoy the cuisine.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Our Recipes Cafe and Catering, LLC?
Chef Maye has been an educator at Baltimore County Public Schools for over 16 years. Although she received her Bachelor of Science degree from Frostburg State University, she pursued her love for the culinary industry and went to Stratford University to get her degree in culinary. She graduated top of her class while still teaching and working for Classic Catering as a chef in training. After working 6 years for Classic Catering and doing her own catering on the side, she decided to open Our Recipes Café and Catering. Her love and passion for the culinary industry is what motivated her to continue to work hard to achieve her lifelong goal.
Sandra is proud of her creation of Creole Sauce and Blackened Seasoning for the Shrimp & Grits Recipe. She also created an Authentic Sweet & Savory Dusting for Sweet Potato Fries. She wants to one market the 3 products along with others that she has created.
