Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashel Wilson.
Hi Lashel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My life has always revolved around creativity. Whether it was music, movies, or art in general. I gravitate towards mediums that allow me to express myself. And I think because of that, opportunities have always just found me when I wasn’t even looking. That’s how I got into acting. The opportunity to star in a play fell into my lap and almost 10 years later I’m still doing it. However, music has been the one I’m most connected to. No matter what I start to dabble in, I always find my way back to it. Since I was 13, I’ve done everything from rapping to being in a girl group to producing music to managing artists to now being an artist myself. It has been quite the journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say in general it’s been a pretty smooth road simply because I have never put pressure on myself. Even for some of my most difficult moments, I’ve always taken them in stride. Everything I experience, whether good or bad, is a lesson and I make a point to learn them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am currently working on an album. I’m excited because I have full creative control so I’m making the kind of music I’d actually want to listen to as a music lover myself. It’s mainly pop music with a punk rock edge. The crew I’m working with at United World Media Group is so amazing and we’ve been working really hard on the project. I’m very proud of it. My first single Keep Your Ring is out everywhere and I just can’t wait to share the rest of the project. I’m also an actress, I’ve done multiple films with local directors as well as a handful of stage plays. I have a reoccurring role as Janet Weiss in an all black shadowcast of Rocky Horror Picture Show. I’ve been with them for 8 years, I started out playing Magenta. I’m super proud of the work we’ve done. We’ve been mentioned in Rolling Stone magazine and in 2024 we performed at the Hippodrome, which is Baltimore’s Broadway stage.
I think what ultimately sets me apart from others is my authenticity. On top of being a passionate person, I bring that energy to everything I do.
What matters most to you?
Being true to myself. I never want to be the person that’s doing something simply for gain. I believe that takes away from the soul of anything you produce. If I’m not creating because I feel called to, what’s the point?
