Meet Chris Mauger of sunset beach, pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Mauger.

chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in PA and earned a business degree. I spent 10 years working as a manager of various home centers and a rental car company.

In 2000, I returned to school to earn a master’s degree, and in September 2004, I moved to Lucknow, India, with my wife and three young children. We lived there for 9 years and then moved to Chittagong, Bangladesh in 2013. My wife and I lived there for 11 years. The two main tasks we did overseas were based on meeting humanitarian needs and sharing the message of Jesus with the local people.

My wife and I returned to the USA in June 2024, initially living in Culpeper, VA. We moved to Sunset Beach in March 2025 where I became the pastor at Grace Baptist Church.

Our children are married and living in Pretoria, South Africa, Richmond, and San Diego.

I have earned 2 Master’s Degrees, a Doctor of Ministry Degree and have authored 3 books. I am also a Professional Life Coach.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have learned much from my struggles. In hindsight, they were good for me, just not always fun along the way. In my books, I share several personal struggles dealing with culture and team members in an overseas setting.

Currently, I am relearning how to fit into the American way of life. After spending 20 years in South Asia, my mind sees that culture as normal, and this one as foreign. My learning curve has been steep and is not finished yet.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the pastor of a small church. The church has a long history in the area, but is not a significant part of the community anymore. I am working hard to change that.

Due to the lack of helpers, I find myself doing many of the tasks related to keeping the church functioning. My favorite job is preaching and visiting with people, hence, I am a people person, so I like to meet new people and learn their stories.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The location is wonderful. We are close to so many things without being in the center of any one of those things. I also like talking with the local people.
