Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunky OG.
Hi Sunky, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Honestly? I just couldn’t sit still. I’ve always been that guy who wanted to know how the whole machine works, not just one gear. I started out just wanting to capture what I saw, so I picked up a camera. That’s where the photography and video obsession began , just trying to freeze a moment or tell a story in a single frame. But then I realised I didn’t just want to watch the story, I wanted to be in it. That’s what led me to acting. Being on stage or in front of a lens taught me so much about human emotion and how to actually connect with people, not just record them.
Then, the journalist in me kicked in. I started asking deeper questions. I wanted to know the truth behind the images. But here’s the thing, you can make the most beautiful movie or write the most heart wrenching story, but if the internet hides it on page 50 of Google, nobody sees it. That’s how I fell down the rabbit hole of SEO, branding, and digital strategy. I realized that being an artist wasn’t enough, I had to be a strategist, too. I had to learn the ‘code’ of the internet to make sure my work (and the brands I care about) actually reached people.
So, how did I get here? By realizing that all these things, the acting, the tech, the writing, they aren’t different jobs. They’re just different tools I use to tell the same story. I’m just a guy who loves to create, but I’ve learned how to make sure the world is actually watching.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Hmm, its been tough and fun, Finance was a huge hurdle, equipment for photography and videography isn’t cheap, and trying to fund a creative dream while keeping the lights on is a balancing act. Then you throw school demands into the mix trying to keep up with my studies at Bowie State while my brain was already halfway into a professional shoot or a branding project. There were so many days where time felt like my biggest enemy. I was literally sprinting from a classroom to a film set, then staying up until 4 AM because a client’s website crashed or an edit wasn’t sitting right.
Balancing the creative side where you want to be free and messy with the technical and academic side was a constant mental tug of war. I spent a lot of nights wondering if I was just scattered instead of skilled. But the real turning point was realizing that my ‘messiness’ was actually my superpower. I stopped trying to fit into one box and realized I was building my own. Once I embraced that doing all of it made me better at each of it, the road didn’t necessarily get smoother, but I definitely got better at driving on it.”
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, what do I actually do? If you ask my mom, she’d probably say I’m ‘always on my laptop or holding a camera. But if I had to put it simply, I build and protect stories.
I specialise in that sweet spot where the creative meets the digital. On one side, I’m a Multimedia Creative, I do photography, videography, and professional acting. I’m known for having a specific eye that looks for the human truth in a shot. On the other side, I’m a Digital Strategist. I dive deep into SEO, branding, and even digital forensics, basically making sure that when we put a story out there, it’s seen by the right people and protected from the noise of the internet, like bots or misinformation.
What am I most proud of? Honestly, it’s the fact that I didn’t drop any of the balls I’m juggling. I’m proud that I can walk off a film set as an actor and immediately jump into a high-level branding meeting or a research paper on digital trust. I’m proud of my Triple-Lock Framework paper, it’s this idea I developed to help people and brands stay safe online. It felt amazing to take all my scattered interests and turn them into a real solution that actually helps people.
What sets me apart? Most people are either the ‘Artist’ or the ‘Tech Guy.’ I’m both. Because I understand SEO and Branding, I don’t just take a pretty picture; I take a picture that I know will perform well on an algorithm. Because I’m a Journalist, I don’t just write a blog post; I tell a story that’s backed by research.
I’m a polymath in a world that wants everyone to be a specialist. I’ve realized that my ability to speak all these ‘languages’, visual, emotional, and digital is exactly why my clients and audience trust me.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about this city is the energy of the hustle. Being around the Dc and the wider DMV area, you’re constantly surrounded by people who are multi-hyphenates just like me. There’s this beautiful mix of high level professional suits and raw, creative street art. I love that I can go from a serious academic environment to a grassroots photo shoot in twenty minutes. It’s a place where everyone has a side hustle and a dream, and that kind of environment keeps me hungry. Plus, the diversity here is unmatched, it’s like a ‘universe of colors’ in real life, and as a photographer, I never run out of interesting faces and stories to capture.”
What I Love Least
If I’m being 100% real? The pace can be exhausting. Sometimes it feels like the city never hits the pause button. In a place so driven by networking and what’s next , it’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind if you aren’t working 24/7. Between the traffic which is a struggle all on its own. and the constant noise, it can be hard to find those quiet, soft moments just to breathe and be still. As much as I love the grind, I’ve had to learn how to create my own digital detox moments just to keep my creative spark from burning out
