Today we’d like to introduce you to Simeon Esprit.
Simeon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I wish I could say I planned to be here and that everything is going exactly the way that I mapped it out. I grew up as an athlete in London, England and have the fortunate dilemma of choosing between becoming a junior professional in Italy or going to play at an Ivy league school in Philadelphia. I chose the latter and to my surprise, had my career cut short due to injury. No matter how old you are or how successful you were in your sport, there is a challenge with shifting your identity way from your sport and into other endeavors. It took time for me to find interests that I could sink my teeth into. My original plan was to be an Attorney. I studied philosophy, the Classics, and American legal history. Upon graduation, I was a paralegal at a corporate litigation firm, i took the LSAT and started applying to Law Schools. As I was touring schools I grappled with the question: Can i see myself doing this for the rest of my life? The honest answer was no. I enjoyed many aspects of law that i observed as a paralegal but I did not see myself thriving in this industry in the ways I wanted. I was intrigued by business and finance so I made I drastic shift and went to pursue my MBA back home in the UK. This is where I found my career. Working with people and solving real world challenges while maintaining an analytical element. The role of a Financial Planner is the perfect marriage of people skills and analytics.
Now, I manage my own practice and I see my career as deeply entertwined with the life I have chosen to live.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The original struggle was the fear to start over and I am glad I did to get to where I am today. The struggles as a business owner are neverending but you get used to the uncertainty over the years. I have learned the importance of character and culture when choosing who to hire or who to take on as clients. Your environment has a great impact on your longevity and how much you can bring each and every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
