Today we’d like to introduce you to Sauda Welch.
Hi Sauda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey moved forward but my path was not straight. I never saw myself as a therapist but through a lot of coincidences and synchronicities (I see it as that now but not at the time), I found my calling. I would have considered myself somewhat of a “nerd” as a kid because I wanted to be an Expert” one of those people you see on documentaries on the History Channel (Dr such and such from the University of so and so ). I think my younger self would be proud of who I am now and amazed at how i got here
Started off at my dream school (Spelman College) first in my family to do so but due to finances had to transfer. I was introduced to the chakras and alternate spiritual beliefs in a ballet class I did not want to be in. Those lessons were reinforced in another class i didn’t want to be in (Tai Chi Chihh). I applied to grad school because a chance encounter my mom made. my first day of grad school I saw my roommate from Spelman. This was a full circle moment and highly influenced my perspective as a clinician to this day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all. (Detours in my education outlined in the previous question). Moving to private practice was not my initial choice but I chose it because I knew my worth, something previous employers did not see. I always struggled with my identity as a therapist. At my first job as a therapist, The owner undervalued the opinions and input of the clinicians and at my second job, I was not the demographic of clinician many of the clients were looking for. even thought I was the senior clinician on the team, I had the smallest caseload and had to do my own marketing. This showed me I had what it took to strike out on my own.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m Sauda Welch, a licensed clinical professional counselor and the founder of Inner G Wellness.
As a trauma-informed clinician, I’m making it possible for people to build lasting emotional resilience through my A.L.I.G.N.E.D. Framework, a step-by-step path that connects psychology with the inner work of personal transformation. I developed this framework through a combination of clinical training and integrating spiritual practices, hermetic principles specifically.
By pairing clinical expertise with a supportive online community, I’m able to keep growth accessible and personal, giving my clients real tools you can use in everyday life. I always knew I would be some sort of educator, not a teacher in a traditional sense but my work now, I am able to not only teach but watch people grow and thrive in a way they never thought was possible. My favorite offerings are those who bring together women on their healing journey. healing and growing can be lonely and I noticed that many of my clients went through similar issues and (especially after the pandemic) craved a community of like minded women. Earlier this year I hosted a tea tasting where the attendees had a chance to sit with women and speak their truth. Watching the women collaborate and support one another solidified for me I’m exactly where i need to be.
I offer Individual counseling (although my caseload is full now), psychotherapy and process groups for women, skill training labs in mindful meditation and somatic practices. I also bring mindfulness and mental health to organizations through executive coaching, workshops and trainings.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I enjoy nonfiction works because it helps with stretching your imagination and seeing possibilities you otherwise could not imagine. I also Enjoy History especially Military History (My dad was a 20 year Marine Corps vet and we had many many hours long conversations about history)
The Percy Jackson series specifically the Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan
The Alchemist by Paolo Cohelo
The Kybalion (the book my framework is based on)
My grandmother’s hands (using somatic healing for racialized intergentational trauma
