Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Pullen.
Hi Erica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins with a little Black girl growing up in the seventies and eighties who was taught, directly and indirectly, that dark skin was something to overcome rather than celebrate. I was called names that chipped away at my confidence, and over time, I began to believe them. Those beliefs followed me into adulthood and influenced many of the choices I made. I did not trust myself because I did not believe I was enough.
Everything began to change when I was selected as the youngest finalist in the Ms. Black Teenage Pageant. For the first time, I was seen and affirmed. The following year, I returned and placed as first runner up. During that journey, I performed a monologue titled Believe in Myself, words I was still learning to live by. That moment became a turning point and planted the seed for healing and self acceptance.
Years later, that seed grew into my first award winning book, Believing in Myself. Writing became my pathway to purpose and empowerment. What began as personal healing evolved into a mission. Today, I am the CEO and Founder of W.E. Publishing Company, a platform created to amplify voices, especially those who have been told they do not matter, in addition to, I am an author, speaker, and advocate for children and women who struggle with self worth. Through publishing, storytelling, and mentorship, I help others turn their pain into purpose.
Every chapter of my life, including the painful ones, led me to where I am today. What once tried to break me became the foundation of my calling. My journey is not just about success. It is about redemption, resilience, and helping others believe in themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Building my company and my career has been anything but a smooth road. While I am proud of what I have created, the journey required resilience, faith, and perseverance through moments most people never see.
As a Black woman entrepreneur, I faced doors that did not open easily and opportunities that required me to prove myself repeatedly. There were financial challenges, moments of self doubt, and seasons where I questioned whether I was doing enough or being enough. I carried the weight of responsibility not only for my vision but for the authors and voices who trusted me with their stories.
There were also emotional struggles. I had to unlearn limiting beliefs from my past while leading a company rooted in empowerment. Some days required me to show up strong while still healing. Balancing purpose with pressure was not easy, but it was necessary.
What kept me going was my faith and the reminder that this company was bigger than me. Every obstacle strengthened my resolve and refined my leadership. The struggles shaped my character, sharpened my vision, and prepared me to lead with compassion and integrity. Looking back, the challenges were not roadblocks. They were building blocks.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about W.E. Publishing Company, LLC?
W.E. Publishing Company was created out of necessity and purpose. I saw firsthand how many talented writers were priced out of publishing because of astronomical fees and unfair industry practices. I believe that everyone with a voice and a story deserves the opportunity to publish a book. At W.E. Publishing Company, voices matter.
We are an affordable pay for hire publishing company that operates with integrity and transparency. We do not accept royalties. All proceeds belong to the author. Our role is to support, guide, and professionally publish each project while allowing authors to retain ownership of their work. That model alone sets us apart in an industry that often benefits at the expense of the writer.
What we specialize in is empowerment through storytelling. By design, W.E. Publishing Company creates award winning authors. Every author who publishes with us becomes an award winning author because we believe excellence should be the standard, not the exception. We walk alongside our authors from concept to completion, ensuring their stories are honored and presented with care and quality.
Brand wise, what I am most proud of is the culture we have built. Once you publish with W.E. Publishing Company, you are not just a client. You are family. We invest in our authors beyond the book, offering mentorship, encouragement, and continued support long after publication.
What I want readers to know is that W.E. Publishing Company is more than a business. It is a mission driven platform created to uplift voices, remove barriers, and turn stories into legacies. When authors choose us, they are choosing affordability, excellence, ownership, and community.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that purpose is often born from pain. For many years, I believed my past disqualified me, when in reality, it was preparing me. Every setback, every insecurity, and every obstacle taught me something valuable about resilience, faith, and perseverance.
I also learned that I do not have to wait to be chosen to walk in my calling. I learned to choose myself and trust the vision placed inside me. Building my business and my career required me to silence fear, honor my worth, and move forward even when the path was unclear.
Most importantly, I learned that when you lead with integrity, compassion, and purpose, success follows in ways that are far more meaningful than titles or recognition. My journey taught me that believing in yourself is not just a moment. It is a daily decision, and it has the power to change everything.
