Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandra Parker.
Hi Chandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into esthetics began during a season of my life when I found myself at a crossroads. While I was successful in many ways, I didn’t feel fulfilled. I knew I wanted to build a career around something I genuinely loved—something that allowed me to make a meaningful impact while using my creativity, compassion, and desire to serve others.
Before entering the beauty industry, I explored modeling and became increasingly aware of how women, particularly women of color and plus-size women, were often viewed, represented, and sometimes overlooked. That experience left a lasting impression on me. I wanted to help create spaces where women felt valued, beautiful, and worthy exactly as they were. That desire eventually led me to esthetics, where I discovered the powerful connection between skincare, confidence, and self-worth.
I became a licensed esthetician in 2019 and later earned my esthetics instructor license. Throughout my career, I have worked as both a practitioner and educator, helping clients achieve healthier skin while mentoring the next generation of estheticians. What I love most about this profession is that it allows me to combine science, wellness, education, and human connection.
In 2024, my life took an even deeper turn when I experienced what I can only describe as a spiritual awakening. That journey ultimately led me to Islam. Through my faith, I gained a greater understanding of purpose, service, modesty, and caring for the whole person—not just outward appearance. As a Black Muslim woman, I recognized a gap in the wellness industry for women who desire privacy, cultural sensitivity, and care that aligns with their values.
That realization inspired me to create The Modest Facialist—a specialized skincare experience designed for women who prioritize modesty, intentional care, and results-driven treatments. I serve women who want to feel comfortable in their own skin without compromising their beliefs, whether they are navigating hyperpigmentation, acne, or signs of aging. My approach goes beyond surface-level treatments by combining corrective skincare with education, so clients leave not only with improved skin, but with the knowledge and confidence to maintain their results.
Today, that vision continues to grow through Nur Wellness Studio. Nur, meaning “light,” reflects the transformation I aim to provide—helping women move from frustration and insecurity to clarity, confidence, and balance. Nur Wellness Studio is designed for women, especially women of color, who are seeking personalized, results-driven skincare in a space that honors their identity, lifestyle, and wellness goals. My work focuses on corrective skincare, healthy aging, hyperpigmentation, and barrier repair, while also addressing the root causes of skin concerns through lifestyle, stress management, and holistic wellness practices.
I am currently expanding my education through clinical herbalism because I believe true wellness is multidimensional. My goal is to bridge evidence-based skincare with holistic wellness practices, offering clients a more comprehensive path to healing and long-term skin health.
Looking back, every challenge, career shift, and life experience has led me to this purpose. Nur Wellness Studio is more than a business—it is a space for transformation, where women feel seen, supported, educated, and empowered to take ownership of their skin and overall well-being. It is my way of serving my community while doing work that I genuinely love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges have made the journey even more meaningful.
Like many small business owners, I have built this business largely with my own resources. In the beginning, I was incredibly blessed to have a few amazing sisters in my community who believed in my vision and personally supported me through donations and encouragement. Their support reminded me that what I was building mattered and gave me the confidence to keep going.
Even with that support, every step of growth has required patience, sacrifice, and careful planning. I often describe my business as being built brick by brick. Every piece of equipment, every product, every training, and every improvement to my studio has come through reinvesting what I earn back into the business. There have been times when I had a vision for a treatment, service, or studio upgrade but simply did not have the financial resources to implement it immediately.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing the desire to provide the highest level of service while working within the realities of a growing business. There are still technologies, equipment, and studio enhancements that I would love to offer my clients, but I’ve learned that sustainable growth takes time. Instead of focusing on what I don’t have yet, I’ve focused on maximizing the knowledge, skills, and resources I do have to create meaningful results for my clients.
Another challenge has been learning to trust the process. In a world that often celebrates overnight success, entrepreneurship has taught me that real growth is usually much slower and less glamorous. There have been moments of uncertainty, financial setbacks, and periods where I questioned whether I was moving fast enough. But each obstacle strengthened my faith, resilience, and commitment to the vision.
What keeps me motivated is knowing that Nur Wellness Studio is about more than skincare. It is about creating a space where women—particularly women of color and women seeking modest, faith-conscious care—feel seen, supported, and valued. Every challenge I have faced has reinforced that mission.
Today, when I look around my studio, I don’t just see equipment or furnishings. I see years of sacrifice, prayer, perseverance, and community support. The journey is still unfolding, but I am proud of what has been built so far and excited for what is ahead.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Nur Wellness Studio is a corrective skincare and wellness practice designed to help women achieve healthy, confident skin through personalized treatments, education, and holistic support. While we offer professional skincare services, our mission goes beyond beauty—we help clients understand their skin, address the root causes of concerns, and develop sustainable habits that support long-term wellness.
I specialize in corrective skincare, with a particular focus on hyperpigmentation, healthy aging, barrier repair, and skin health for women of color. As both a licensed esthetician and esthetics educator, I believe informed clients achieve better outcomes. Education is a core part of every service because I want clients to understand not only what is happening with their skin, but why.
What sets Nur Wellness Studio apart is the combination of results-driven skincare, wellness principles, and a commitment to creating a safe, respectful environment for women. As a Black Muslim woman, I recognized that many women were looking for a space where they could prioritize self-care without sacrificing their comfort, privacy, or values. That realization inspired me to create The Modest Facialist, which eventually evolved into Nur Wellness Studio.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that skin health is connected to overall well-being. Stress, nutrition, lifestyle habits, environmental factors, and daily skincare routines all play a role in how the skin functions. Rather than focusing solely on treating symptoms, I work with clients to create realistic, individualized plans that support both skin health and overall wellness.
One of the things I am most proud of is the community we are building. Many clients arrive feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or discouraged by years of struggling with their skin. Seeing them gain confidence, develop a healthier relationship with self-care, and begin to feel comfortable in their own skin is incredibly rewarding.
I am also proud that Nur Wellness Studio reflects my values. It is a woman-centered space built on education, integrity, compassion, and service. Every treatment, consultation, and wellness offering is designed with intention and care.
As the studio continues to grow, my vision is to expand beyond traditional skincare by incorporating more wellness education, clinical herbalism, and holistic approaches that empower women to take ownership of their health and well-being.
I want readers to know that Nur Wellness Studio is more than a skincare business—it is a place where women can feel seen, supported, educated, and empowered to thrive. I don’t believe luxury is what sets a skincare experience apart. I believe being seen, heard, educated, and genuinely cared for is the true luxury. That is the experience I strive to create for every woman who walks through my door.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone just starting out is to have a plan, invest in your education, and stay consistent.
When I first started, I thought success would come from having all the right equipment, the perfect setup, or enough money to do everything at once. What I have learned is that your knowledge, skills, and consistency will take you much further than waiting for the perfect circumstances.
Don’t be afraid to start where you are. Build one step at a time and focus on creating a strong foundation. Reinvest in yourself through education, mentorship, and training. The beauty and wellness industries are constantly evolving, and your willingness to keep learning will always be one of your greatest assets.
I also wish I had understood that growth is rarely overnight. Social media often highlights the finished product, but not the years of work, sacrifice, and perseverance behind it. There will be seasons when progress feels slow, but consistency compounds over time. The small actions you take every day eventually become the business, career, and life you envisioned.
Most importantly, stay connected to your purpose. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but when your work is aligned with your values and your “why,” it becomes much easier to keep moving forward. Success isn’t about being the fastest—it’s about continuing to show up, improve, and serve others with excellence.
