Today we’d like to introduce you to Sesilia Conchola.
Hi Sesilia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Founded in 2021 by Sesilia Conchola, a licensed clinical social worker and advocate for mental health, our practice began with a clear mission: to provide a safe and empowering space for women and individuals of color to embark on their healing journey. Sesilia, drawing from her own experiences as a woman of color, envisioned a practice where individuals could feel truly seen, heard, and supported as they navigated through life’s challenges. With a focus on fostering authenticity and empowerment, she set out to create a community of care where clients could explore their identities and heal from within. As the practice flourished, it became evident that there was a growing need for holistic and culturally sensitive mental health services. In 2024, our practice evolved into a group practice, welcoming clinicians who shared the same passion for fostering healing and empowerment within marginalized communities.
Today, our team of dedicated clinicians continues to uphold the founding principles of our practice, guiding clients through a transformative healing process that integrates expressive and creative therapies. Together, we strive to create a supportive community where individuals can embrace their true selves and thrive on their journey towards healing and self-discovery.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been far from smooth. Along the way, there have been long nights, busy days, unexpected challenges, and plenty of hard lessons. But every one of them has been worth it.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of asking for—and being willing to accept—help. You don’t have to navigate every challenge on your own. The journey feels a lot less lonely when you allow yourself to lean on the people who are willing to support you.
As you know, we’re big fans of Soul-Mind Connection Counseling LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Soul-Mind Connection Counseling is a mental health group practice built around the belief that therapy should be a space where people feel seen, heard, connected, and free to show up as their authentic selves. We provide individual, couples, and group therapy to adolescents and adults navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other experiences that impact their emotional well-being.
What makes Soul-Mind Connection unique is our commitment to going beyond traditional talk therapy. Expressive and creative approaches are an important part of who we are. We recognize that sometimes people don’t have the words to describe what they are feeling—or words simply aren’t enough. We incorporate expressive therapies and other evidence-based approaches to help clients explore emotions, develop insight, strengthen relationships, and connect with themselves in ways that feel meaningful and authentic.
Our work is also grounded in the understanding that culture, identity, family, community, and lived experiences matter. We strive to create an inclusive and culturally responsive environment where clients from diverse backgrounds can receive care that recognizes the whole person rather than simply focusing on a diagnosis.
One of the things I am most proud of is that Soul-Mind Connection has grown into more than just a place where people receive therapy. We are building a community centered around **connection, compassion, creativity, authenticity, self-expression, happiness, and diversity**. We are also committed to investing in the next generation of mental health professionals by providing meaningful training and mentorship opportunities for student interns and developing clinicians.
At the heart of our brand is **connection**—connection to yourself, connection to others, and connection to the things that bring meaning to your life. Mental health care doesn’t have to feel cold, clinical, or one-size-fits-all. At Soul-Mind Connection Counseling, we want therapy to feel human.
As we continue to grow, our goal is to expand the ways people can experience that mission through therapy, groups, workshops, community partnerships, educational opportunities, and creative wellness resources. Ultimately, we want people to know that Soul-Mind Connection is not simply about treating symptoms. It is about creating space for people to express themselves, understand themselves, build healthier connections, and move toward lives that feel more fulfilling and authentic.
What’s next?
The future of Soul-Mind Connection Counseling is really about intentional growth. I want to continue expanding the practice while making sure we never lose the personal connection, creativity, and authenticity that are at the heart of what we do.
One of the biggest areas of growth is continuing to develop Soul-Mind Connection as a group practice and expanding our team of clinicians. I’m also passionate about creating opportunities for emerging mental health professionals. Through our internship training program, I want to provide high level graduate students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that help them develop strong clinical skills while also gaining confidence in who they are becoming as professionals.
I’m also looking forward to expanding beyond traditional individual therapy. I envision Soul-Mind Connection offering more groups, workshops, community partnerships, educational programming, and creative wellness experiences. I’m especially interested in continuing to develop services that incorporate expressive therapies and address areas such as relationships, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
Brand development is also a really exciting part of our next chapter. We are developing a new line of Soul-Mind Connection merchandise that gives people another way to embrace self-expression and connection. The idea is that people can quite literally **“wear their expression.”** Our merchandise will incorporate products, messages and designs centered around mental wellness, connection, authenticity, creativity, and self-expression. I want the brand to extend beyond the therapy room and become something people can connect with in their everyday lives.
Ultimately, the big change I’m preparing for is allowing Soul-Mind Connection to become bigger than me. What started as a solo private practice is evolving into a larger vision that brings together therapy, professional development, education, creativity, community, and a recognizable wellness brand. I’m excited about creating something that people don’t just come to for therapy, but something they can identify with, experience, and even wear.
As we grow, I want Soul-Mind Connection to remain grounded in the values that started it all: **connection, compassion, authenticity, creativity, self-expression, happiness, and diversity.**
