Today we’d like to introduce you to Emoni Smith.
Hi Emoni , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, I didn’t start EKS Consulting because I had a five-year plan. I started it because my manager asked me to help launch her apparel business, and something just clicked. It was 2020. I was working full-time as an admissions counselor, taking free digital marketing certificates in my spare time because I was curious. I wasn’t thinking “entrepreneur.” I was just learning.
But when I helped her with branding and social strategy, everything shifted. We grew that business from zero to five figures using Instagram and Meta ads. The account hit 10,000 followers in three months. Suddenly, I wasn’t just interested in marketing. I knew I could do something with this. I started EKS Consulting while still working full-time. I wasn’t reckless. I was hungry plus it was covid and while we were all trapped at home online businesses were flourishing.
From 2020 to 2022, I took on clients. There was the nonprofit client founder building community impact in Jamaica. A travel concierge client where I created strategic newsletters and built a landing page that drove registrations for an event. A pediatric dentist client who was camera-shy but needed to be the visible face of her practice. Over a year, we went from zero to a thriving Instagram presence, and she went from terrified to confident being on camera. Every client had real results. Every project was proof that my strategy worked. I was building something, but I was also doing everything myself. No delegation, no boundaries and no time to pause.
By 2022, I was drowning. Not just tired. Spiritually empty. I’d wake up irritated at the thought of opening my laptop. I’d sit in client meetings counting down the days until the contract ended.
Here’s what I didn’t want to admit: I was projecting my burnout onto everyone around me. I had a client who was actually great, actually paying on time, actually engaged. But because I was running on empty, I saw my client as difficult. The real problem was me. I’d built a system that required me to sacrifice everything, and I was angry about it.
At the same time, I was searching for a new full-time job. Not because I wanted to abandon entrepreneurship. Because I needed stability. I needed to know that my survival didn’t depend on grinding myself into the ground. When that client contract ended, I didn’t jump into another one. I stepped back from the business completely. And I started searching for a new full-time job. I wasn’t running from entrepreneurship. I was running toward stability. I needed higher pay. I needed breathing room. I needed to know that my survival didn’t depend on grinding myself into the ground.
But I couldn’t find that job. The search was exhausting, and nothing came through. So I stayed at my admissions counselor position. And that’s when everything shifted internally.
The burnout I’d been running from caught up with me. I experienced mild depression and anxiety. And I couldn’t ignore it anymore. I couldn’t just keep grinding. I couldn’t just keep pretending.
So I took a leave of absence from my job. Three months where I didn’t work, didn’t hustle, didn’t try to fix anything.
Instead, I prayed. I fasted. I read my Bible. I stayed close to God.
During those three months, something became clear to me. Not through logic or planning. Through stillness. Through faith. Through sitting with God and asking Him what was actually supposed to happen next.
And He showed me: I needed to go back to my business. Not out of desperation. Not out of trying to prove something. But out of a deep, spiritual knowing that this was what I was called to do.
By 2025, I was ready. Not because I’d figured everything out, but because I’d finally heard clearly, and I had peace.
I rebranded EKS Consulting completely. It wasn’t a tweak. It wasn’t a refresh. It was a complete rebrand rooted in what I’d learned about myself, about burnout, about faith, about what it actually takes to build something that doesn’t destroy you in the process. I’m rebuilding EKS Consulting with a mission rooted in lived experience and faith. I help burnt-out founders, especially ambitious women balancing corporate jobs with side businesses, build visible, authentic brands without sacrificing their mental health.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It started off very fun, but it wasn’t smooth at all. The burnout in 2022 wasn’t just about being tired. It was about feeling like I was failing at everything simultaneously. I was failing my clients because I didn’t have the capacity to serve them well. I was failing myself because I was sacrificing everything and getting nothing back and at times the math wasn’t mathing. My mental health took a deep hit and granted that didn’t happen due to the business, but it is all a part of my story that led me back to my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
EKS Consulting helps burnt-out founders, particularly ambitious women balancing full-time corporate jobs with side businesses, build visible, authentic personal brands without sacrificing their mental health.
I work with two main audiences: founders building their own businesses on the side, and B2B corporate teams navigating visibility and personal branding challenges, but the mission is the same across both: It’s never too late to have fun, I help people show up authentically, build real community, and grow without the grind.
I’m not selling you a content calendar or a posting schedule or a formula that works for everyone. I’m selling you permission. I’m selling you proof that you can build something real without burning out. I’m selling you the lived experience of someone who’s been exactly where you are.
When you work with me, you’re not working with someone who’s never failed or never been invisible or never questioned whether it was all worth it. You’re working with someone who’s been there, stepped back, healed, and came back different.
That changes everything about how I show up for clients. I’m not above you. I’m alongside you. I’m one chapter ahead, turning around to show you what I see.
I specialize in building an AI-Powered Social Media Agent.
My signature offer is a customizable AI social media agent built on Claude. This tool helps founders organize content ideas, track trends, understand their market research, generate and strengthen hooks, and eventually schedule content. But here’s the crucial part: it’s not replacing the founder’s voice. It’s amplifying it. It’s removing the admin burden so the founder can focus on strategy, connection, and showing up authentically.
I also refuse to separate AI from authenticity. Most people think they’re opposites. I think they’re partners. AI is the tool that lets you work smarter so you can actually be more authentic, more present, more human in your business. That’s a perspective not many people in this space are talking about.
And finally, I lead with my story. I don’t hide my failures or my burnout or my three-year pause. I don’t pretend I’ve always had it figured out. That vulnerability is actually my greatest asset because it gives permission to everyone else who’s struggling.
I’m proud that EKS Consulting stands Empower, Knowledge through service which means we will always choose grace over grind. In an industry that worships grinding and sacrificing and “giving it your all,” I’m building a brand that says: you can have visibility and mental health. You can be ambitious and take care of yourself. You can build something real without destroying yourself in the process. I’m proud that my first client post-rebrand, felt so seen in our session that she’s now implementing the strategy we built together with confidence. That’s not because I’m the smartest strategist. It’s because I genuinely understand what it feels like to have content and not know what to do with it because I’ve lived the overwhelm she’s living.
EKS Consulting main offerings:
1. The Warm-Up Session (Free Call)
This is where we get to know each other and understand the actual problem before jumping into solutions. Just genuine conversation to understand if we’re a fit and what you actually need.
2. Strategy Power Hour
Once we’ve identified the problem, this is where we build the solution. In 60 minutes, we map out your positioning, clarify what content you should be creating, identify the hooks and messages that resonate with your audience, and build a custom content roadmap. You get a call recording and a 7-day content plan you can implement immediately.
3. Instagram Management (Three Tiers)
For founders who want done-for-you content support. We handle content creation, engagement, analytics, and strategy calls. All built on YOUR voice, YOUR story, YOUR authentic brand. Not a template.

This is for founders who want to move the needle quickly without doing the filming themselves.
I want to let readers know that the social media world changes every day, but we are rooted in out story and for that we need to share it. It’s much better to show up in your true story than to show up duplicating a story that isn’t authentic to you.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
You’ve taken all the classes. You’re ready. There’s no perfect way to show up, just show up. The beautiful part about this journey is you can fix it as you go. We often want everything perfect before we even begin, but that’s the trap.
Burning out is not a badge of honor. You will not receive brownie points for it. REST is important. Understanding your capacity is important. For me, praying, talking to my family, talking to my community, that’s what sustained me through the hard seasons.
I love a slow morning. I love slowing down. And I realized we’re not in a race. Once you understand that, things shift. Strategy becomes clearer. Ideas start to land. Everything falls into place differently.
You can pause without feeling like a failure. You can step back and come back even stronger, even more aligned. That’s not giving up. That’s wisdom.
