Exploring Life & Business with Zenobia Dyson of Royal Oasis ~ Endulgence Japanese Head & Foot Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zenobia Dyson.

Hi Zenobia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Every journey begins with a choice and thr mist difficult thing is the decision to act. In my journey, there has been a lifelong of curiosity, growth and discovery. My entry into the world started with my first cry, my first words and my first steps symbolizing my independence. No one prepared me for my entry, no one prepared me for the challenges, or thr traumas. My world was about to change forever when my youngest son Najee was preparing to leave home and head to Orlando, Florida for college. This invoked a range of emotion, feelings of anxiety, excitement and a sense of loss i had to face adapting to my son’s absence. As my college-bound son was preparing to leave for school, I needed something for me, something to keep me going, Since the age of 16, I had a passion for doing hair and skincare. I attended Blades Beauty School in Great Mills, MD many years ago but I was unable to complete the program due to having a child and no babysitter. As my son Najee is preparing for his journey, I was rediscovering myself. I had to find my new purpose. I couldn’t imagine this future separation of what was going to be a tearful plane ride. Cosmetology and Esthetics pulled my heart strings, I’ve been drawn to skincare and hair care. It was an opportunity to invest in myself. I was a full-time employee that commute to work every day 4.5 hours I spend on the highway, the school was 1-Hr and 30 mins away from my home, At this point, I didn’t know if I really wanted to put this strain on myself. I had spoken with my husband about my concerns and expressed it’s something I really wanted to do. Surprisingly, he said he will sign up for the course with me so I wouldn’t have to travel alone. Once we were approved for the program, I felt this sense of purpose and I wanted to be fully committed to completing the course this time. After my husband’s and I graduation we had a few months left with our son before he was ready to meet his new home in Florida. My husband helped me to turn our basement into a full salon. I worked in my basement for 2 years before stepping out on faith into my own studio. This journey had been rewarding and has shaped my personal growth and affirming this us where I truly belong.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has both its rewards and challenges. While this career has been fulfilling, it is not without difficulties. I am a full-time employee, so balancing my work life while being an entrepreneur is difficult at times. Building relationships with clients, ongoing education, physical demands and working evenings and weekends which affects work life balance. There is a lot of commitment especially with being client-focused, hands-on-training & ongoing education and not to mention competition.
What i find rewarding and challenging is knowing my work directly contributes to a client’s self-esteem and well-being and that adds a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I love impacting people’s lives in the field of esthetics because I desire for people to look their best and feel their best.
