Hi Sheila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began in Puerto Rico, where my husband, Henry “Yoko” Osorio, started Adiós Rutina as a passion project to document our travels and adventures together. We simply loved exploring new places, making memories, and sharing those experiences with others in hopes of inspiring people to step away from their daily routines and enjoy life a little more. At the time, we never imagined it would grow into what it is today.
Then, in 2018, our lives changed in just a matter of days.
I wasn’t looking for a new job when an unexpected opportunity found me. I had a phone interview on a Wednesday, and by the end of the conversation, the principal told me, “The job is yours. If you want it, you need to be here next Wednesday.”
I immediately called Yoko to tell him what had happened. Without hesitation, he simply said, “Let’s go.”
There wasn’t much time to think. We sat down with our children, talked as a family about what this opportunity could mean for our future, and together decided to take the leap. In just a few days, we packed up our entire lives, said goodbye to Puerto Rico, and moved to Maryland. We left behind everything that was familiar with nothing more than faith, excitement, and the hope of building a better future together.
Starting over wasn’t easy. Like many families who relocate, we had to learn a new city, build new friendships, and create a new sense of home. During that process, we continued creating content for Adiós Rutina. As we explored the DMV, we realized there were countless incredible parks, restaurants, festivals, small businesses, and hidden gems that many people—especially within the Latino community—didn’t know about.
That realization gave Adiós Rutina a new purpose. It was no longer just about sharing our adventures; it became about helping others discover everything this region has to offer, supporting local businesses, and encouraging families to spend quality time together while creating unforgettable memories.
Over the years, what started as a simple travel page has grown into a business with several branches. Today, Adiós Rutina creates travel and lifestyle content, destination guides, and coverage of local events throughout the DMV. We partner with tourism organizations, destinations, and small businesses to help tell their stories in an authentic way.
We also expanded into Adiós Rutina Events, where we create behind-the-scenes and social media content for weddings, quinceañeras, corporate events, and celebrations, allowing families and businesses to relive some of their most meaningful moments through authentic storytelling.
As our experience grew, I also began mentoring small business owners who want to feel more confident creating content and building their brands online. Helping others tell their own stories has become one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
Most recently, I had the opportunity to bring Adiós Rutina to the airwaves through my weekly radio segment, “Tu Próxima Parada con Lola,” on La Mega Capital 97.5 FM. Every Friday, I share family-friendly events, weekend activities, and hidden gems across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, continuing our mission of helping people discover something new.
Outside of entrepreneurship, I continue working as a full-time kindergarten teacher. Teaching has shaped so much of who I am. It has taught me patience, creativity, empathy, and the importance of building genuine relationships—qualities that naturally influence the way we connect with our audience and tell stories through our content.
Looking back, it’s incredible to think that one unexpected phone call, one family conversation, and one simple “Let’s go” completely changed the course of our lives. What began as a small passion project in Puerto Rico has grown into a platform that reaches thousands of people, supports local businesses, celebrates our Latino community, and inspires others to explore, connect, and create memories together.
We’re incredibly grateful for every opportunity that has come our way, and while we’ve accomplished more than we ever imagined, we truly believe that this is only the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped who we are today.
One of our biggest challenges was starting over from scratch after moving from Puerto Rico to Maryland. We left behind our family, lifelong friends, and everything that felt familiar. We arrived knowing very few people, and for a long time, it was just us learning how to build a completely new life together.
The transition was especially emotional for our family because we have four children, and each experienced this new chapter differently. Our oldest son remained in Puerto Rico, while our other three children moved with us. One was starting high school, another middle school, and our youngest was entering elementary school. Being separated from our oldest while beginning a completely new chapter in Maryland was one of the hardest parts of our journey. At the same time, our younger children had to leave behind their friends, adjust to new schools, learn a different culture, and build a new life. As parents, we were navigating our own emotions while making sure they felt safe, supported, and excited about this new adventure. Watching each of them grow, adapt, and eventually call Maryland home has been one of our greatest blessings.
My husband, Yoko, also lives with anxiety, so such a major life change brought additional emotional challenges. Leaving behind everything familiar, adapting to a new environment, and rebuilding our lives from the ground up wasn’t always easy. There were moments of uncertainty and fear, but we faced them together. We learned what it truly means to be partners—to support each other through difficult seasons, celebrate even the smallest victories, and keep moving forward one step at a time. Those experiences strengthened not only our marriage but also the way we lead our business today.
Although we don’t have relatives here, we were incredibly blessed to find our support system almost immediately. The very day we arrived in Maryland, we discovered that one of Yoko’s closest childhood friends lived just 15 minutes away. Having that familiar connection during such a life-changing transition was an unexpected blessing. Through my work as a teacher, we also built meaningful friendships with fellow educators who quickly became like family to us. To this day, they remain some of the most important people in our lives.
Our journey through social media has also introduced us to so many incredible people. What started as connections through content has grown into genuine friendships with people we deeply value and appreciate. Looking back, one of the greatest gifts this journey has given us isn’t just the places we’ve discovered—it’s the people we’ve met along the way. They’ve become part of our story, and we’re grateful to call many of them friends.
At the same time, I’ve continued working as a full-time kindergarten teacher, so building Adiós Rutina has never been my only job. Many people see the finished videos or the exciting places we visit, but they don’t always see the late nights spent editing after work, the weekends dedicated to filming, or the countless hours invested in planning content, responding to emails, managing partnerships, and running a business.
Like many content creators, we’ve also had to adapt to constantly changing social media platforms and algorithms. There have been moments when videos we poured our hearts into didn’t perform the way we hoped, collaborations didn’t go as planned, or platforms changed their rules overnight. Those experiences taught us that consistency, authenticity, and serving our community will always matter more than chasing numbers.
As Adiós Rutina has grown, we’ve continued saying yes to opportunities that pushed us outside our comfort zone. Expanding into event content creation, mentoring small business owners, collaborating with destinations and tourism organizations, and recently bringing our mission to the radio through my weekly segment, have all been exciting milestones. Each opportunity came with uncertainty, but we’ve learned that growth almost always begins where comfort ends.
Looking back, I realize that our greatest obstacles became our greatest teachers. Moving away from home, being separated from our oldest son while he remained in Puerto Rico, helping our other three children adapt to new schools and a completely different life, supporting one another through anxiety, balancing full-time careers while building a business, and creating a new home far from our relatives taught us resilience, patience, faith, and perseverance.
Today, Adiós Rutina is much more than a content platform. It’s the story of our family. It’s proof that one unexpected phone call, one courageous decision, and one simple “Let’s go” can completely change the course of your life. It’s also a reminder that home isn’t always a place—it’s the people you love, the community you build, and the courage to embrace new beginnings.
Our mission has never been just to show beautiful places. It’s to inspire people to step outside their routine, discover everything their community has to offer, support local businesses, and create meaningful memories with the people they love. Looking back, every challenge we’ve faced has made that mission even more meaningful, and we’re grateful that our own journey has allowed us to encourage others to begin adventures of their own.

Adiós Rutina is a family-owned media and content creation company founded by my husband, Yoko, and me. What began as a way to document our adventures together has grown into a platform dedicated to inspiring people to step outside their routine, discover hidden gems, support local businesses, and create meaningful memories with the people they love.
Although many people recognize me because I’m usually the one in front of the camera, Adiós Rutina has always been a true partnership. Yoko is the creative force behind so much of what people don’t see. He’s behind the camera, brainstorming ideas, filming, editing, solving problems, and making sure every project comes to life. I may be the face of the brand, but everything we’ve accomplished has been possible because of our teamwork and the different strengths we each bring to the business.
Over the years, Adiós Rutina has evolved far beyond travel content. Today, we collaborate with destinations, tourism organizations, hotels, restaurants, and local businesses to create authentic storytelling that connects people with experiences. We also created Adiós Rutina Events, where we capture weddings, quinceañeras, and special celebrations through a candid, social media-first perspective. In addition, I mentor small business owners who want to build their confidence on camera and create meaningful content for their own brands. Most recently, I’ve expanded our mission to radio through my weekly segment, “Tu Próxima Parada con Lola,” where I share local events and hidden gems across the DMV.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just create content—we build genuine relationships. Our audience trusts us because every recommendation comes from our own experience. We only share places, businesses, and experiences that we truly believe in, and we approach every collaboration with authenticity and care. Our goal has never been to simply promote a destination; it’s to tell stories that inspire people to explore, connect with their communities, and support local businesses.
More than anything, we’re proud that Adiós Rutina has become a family project built on trust, resilience, and teamwork. Every milestone we’ve reached has been the result of working together, staying true to our values, and never losing sight of why we started. If there’s one thing we hope people take away from our brand, it’s that the best memories are often waiting just outside your routine.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I love most about Maryland is its incredible diversity. Coming from Puerto Rico, we were used to having the beach just ten minutes away. When we moved here, I never imagined that one state could offer so much variety. Within a short drive, you can experience the mountains, rolling farmland, charming small towns, beautiful parks, lakes, waterfalls, vineyards, and even the coastline. Every season transforms the landscape, giving you a completely different experience. As someone who loves exploring, that’s something I’ve truly fallen in love with.
I also love the diversity of the people and cultures. There is always something happening—whether it’s a cultural festival, a local market, a family event, a hidden restaurant, or a small business with an inspiring story. That diversity is one of the biggest reasons Adiós Rutina exists. We realized there were so many incredible places and people that deserved to be discovered and celebrated.
What makes this area even more special to me is the community we’ve built. Even though we don’t have relatives here, we were blessed from the very beginning. The same day we arrived in Maryland, we discovered that one of Yoko’s closest childhood friends lived just fifteen minutes away. That unexpected connection made such a difference during one of the biggest transitions of our lives. Through my work as a teacher, we also met incredible educators who quickly became like family. Over the years, social media has brought even more wonderful people into our lives—people who started as followers or collaborators and became genuine friends. Today, that community is one of the greatest blessings we’ve received and one of the reasons Maryland truly feels like home.
If there’s one thing that weighs on my heart, it’s seeing the fear and uncertainty that many members of our Latino community are experiencing today. Through Adiós Rutina, we’ve had the privilege of meeting hardworking families, entrepreneurs, and small business owners who contribute so much to this community. Seeing people hesitate to attend events, support local businesses, or simply enjoy time with their families because of fear is heartbreaking. It reminds me that creating spaces where people feel welcome, connected, and supported is more important than ever.
That’s ultimately what we hope Adiós Rutina represents. More than a page about places to visit, we want it to be a source of joy, connection, and encouragement. We want people to continue exploring, supporting local businesses, making memories with the people they love, and celebrating the beautiful diversity that makes Maryland and the DMV such a special place to call home.
