Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Timko.
Hi Rebecca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started shadowing and learning from health care providers that do exactly what Clarity Brain and Body Clinic does now, when I was 16 years old. I was immediately captivated by my mentor’s ability to connect with their patients and see incredible results on difficult cases other providers failed to help.
I went on to try different avenues in the health care and research spaces, spending four years conducting academic neuroscience research in addition to working with children and adults with disabilities and individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Ultimately, I chose to pursue a career in functional neurology because I found it to be the perfect blend of clinical neuroscience and heartwarming patient success stories.
Opening and owning my own clinic wasn’t something I had always planned, but when I began working with patients, I quickly realized it was something that was desperately needed. I became dissatisfied at the clinical landscape, with its short appointments, rushed visits, lack of human connection, and the lack of time to dive into the true complexity of patients’ cases and medical histories. If I wanted to provide the standard of care I knew my patients deserved, I needed to do it myself.
Opening Clarity Brain and Body Clinic has been the most rewarding experience of my life, and I feel honored to work with such incredible patients. Each day, I’m inspired by their perseverance and resilience. Their stories motivate me to keep improving as a clinician and business owner and to continue building a space where people feel supported and understood.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I started my business because it allowed me to help the patient populations I’m most passionate about, but with opening a practice comes with its own set of challenges. I was trained in functional neurology, not in how to run a business, so I had to learn everything from scratch. That includes everything from bookkeeping, designing a welcoming clinic space, and managing daily operations. It was a steep learning curve at first, but the freedom and purpose it’s given me have been invaluable. Having my own practice elevates the care I provide and allows me to show up for my patients in the ways they deserve.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Clarity Brain and Body Clinic?
Clarity Brain and Body Clinic specializes in treating young women struggling with chronic neurological conditions including concussion, brain injury, POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), dysautonomia, and chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, hypermobility, and hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I treat these conditions using functional neurology and neurorehabilitation, which focuses on improving brain and nervous system function so patients can function and feel better. Many of these women struggle for years to get a diagnosis and even longer to find treatment options that actually address the root cause of their symptoms and help them regain their quality of life. These conditions are often invisible yet deeply debilitating. Patients are frequently dismissed or told their symptoms are “just anxiety.” My clinic was started to offer a better solution.
I take a comprehensive approach to assessing the brain and nervous system. During my intake process, I am able to spend several hours with each patient to fully understand their story, which is something most healthcare settings don’t allow. I perform an extensive neurological examination and use diagnostic testing to evaluate cognitive function, autonomic regulation, balance, and oculomotor function. These tests allow me to objectively measure how different systems in the brain are functioning, which is especially helpful for symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, or dizziness that often feel vague or hard to quantify. This data allows me to identify patterns like delayed processing speed, poor memory, or abnormal autonomic responses. I then use this information to design a custom treatment plan that is tailored to each patient’s goals.
Treatment at Clarity Brain and Body Clinic frequently includes cognitive rehabilitation, vestibular therapy oculomotor exercises, and autonomic nervous system regulation. Because my patients struggle with complex chronic neurological issues, every day can look a little different. Progress isn’t always linear, and owning my own practice allows me to adjust treatment plans to meet patients where they are at each session. I never want someone dreading the same exercises each session or feeling like a failure if they aren’t performing the way they did last time. Instead, I support them through the natural ups and downs of recovery and help them stay confident that meaningful lasting progress is possible.
What truly sets Clarity Brain and Body Clinic apart is the time, depth, and personalization I offer along with my commitment to validating and supporting patients who have felt dismissed or unheard elsewhere. My goal is to create a clinic that combines advanced clinical neuroscience with the genuine human connection.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, my goal is to expand Clarity Brain and Body Clinic to help more people access care for complex neurological issues, which includes extending my reach beyond the office. I plan on getting more involved in the community by offering educational workshops and creating resources for both patients and providers to better understand and treat these conditions. One of my major focuses will be on collaborating with and educating other healthcare providers, so more patients can receive accurate diagnoses and treatment. Ultimately, I want to build a stronger local support network for individuals with POTS, concussion, and chronic pain because no one should have to navigate these challenging conditions alone.
