Exploring Life & Business with Miss Lucky Long of Luckys Gourmet Eats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miss Lucky Long.

Miss Lucky, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began in a small apartment on the Eastern Shore of Maryland while I was in college. What started as simple meals to get through busy days quickly became something much deeper — cooking became my outlet, my therapy, and my way of connecting with others.

In that tiny kitchen, I discovered not just a passion, but a purpose. I began cooking not only for myself, but for classmates and neighbors who would gather around my table.

During major school breaks, when many students returned home, I stayed on campus and prepared meals for those who remained. Those moments — filled with laughter, shared stories, and warm plates of food — created a sense of belonging and comfort that many of us needed.

It was in those small but meaningful gatherings that Lucky’s Gourmet Eats was born. What began as a way to bring people together has grown into a mission: to serve food that nourishes not only the body, but the spirit.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many entrepreneurs, the journey has come with its fair share of obstacles. From navigating marketing challenges to experiencing slow days that sometimes turned into slow months, building this business has required resilience and faith.

Marketing, in particular, has been one of the greatest hurdles. Over the years, I’ve explored various trends and strategies, learning through trial and error what truly connects with my audience.

What has proven most effective is something money cannot buy — authentic word of mouth. Real customers sharing real experiences has built a foundation of trust within the community. That trust reflects the integrity behind the brand and the consistency of the service provided.

When demand slows in one area, I pivot with intention. If catering inquiries decrease, I strategically shift focus to meal prep subscriptions or cooking classes.

Rather than viewing challenges as setbacks, I see them as opportunities to refine, innovate, and grow. Each obstacle has strengthened my business acumen and deepened my commitment to serving my community with excellence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My company is owned and operated by a Black woman, and that is a feat all on its own. My company offers catering services, meal plan subscriptions, cooking lessons, and participates in local pop-up shops to engage with the community.

We specialize in putting smiles on people’s faces. We are known for our wide range of foods, offering options for soul food lovers, vegans, and pescatarians alike.

Our slogan is, “Food so good you can taste the love.” The key ingredient is love, backed by the joy of preparing the food. This is something that cannot be replicated anywhere else, and that is something I’m extremely proud of.

I want your readers to know that, for us, helping through stomachs is personal. We understand life is hard, and sometimes a little convenience is the difference between a great day and a bad day. By buying our products, signing up for a cooking class, or subscribing to a meal plan, you are choosing to take a little of your day back to allocate to yourself or your family. We strive to do the hard work so you don’t have to — you can simply enjoy.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I believe my purpose in life is to serve others. In whatever capacity I am able, I strive to uplift, inspire, and encourage people to see possibilities beyond their current circumstances. Sometimes that means motivating someone to move in a new direction. Other times, it simply means meeting them exactly where they are and offering support until they are ready to grow.

Helping people has always been second nature to me. Cooking is the vessel through which I live out that purpose. A warm meal does more than satisfy hunger — it brings comfort, connection, and a moment of relief.

That first bite can spark joy, restore energy, and shift the course of someone’s entire day. Through food, I am not just serving plates; I am serving encouragement, care, and love.
