Today we’d like to introduce you to Kali Baklor and Erika McMahon.
Hi Kali and Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We met 3 years ago while substitute teaching during the Pandemic. Through a challenging time, we became fast friends and realized we worked really well together. While on a birthday trip to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, we discovered these incredibly unique, colorful, and fun tote bags, made by local artisans. We established relationships with several of the artists and knew we wanted to share their work with our friends and family back in Baltimore. With our combined knowledge of business, marketing, and the arts, we began to think bigger and decided to start our own business. We are excited to be on this journey and can’t wait to see what is to come!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have been so excited to watch our customers fall in love with our bags, just as much as we did. Although we have been able to identify our target audience, it has been a challenge to figure out the best venues to showcase our product. We are trying to figure out how to scale our inventory based on customer demands. Truthfully, the road for us has just begun and we are ready to face any obstacles that come with starting and owning a business!

At TOTEally Chic, we curate and sell tote bags that are hand woven by local Mexican artists made from 100% recycled plastic. Our bags are versatile and each one is unique, no two are the same. The Sol Bag is lightweight yet durable; they can be taken anywhere and used for anything. As a brand, we are proud of our social media presence. Erika McMahon has a background in PR, Recruiting, and Social Media. She has always had a passion for design and fashion.
Kali Baklor is an Actor by trade, with a degree is Musical Theatre Performance. She also has a background in Sales, Social Media, and Business. Our combined skills provide the perfect foundation with which to build our brand.
