Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Kahle.
Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated college with a degree in art; however, I took a hiatus from art making to pursue a job in the federal government. In 2016, i desperately missed my craft and started to draw again during my daily commute. I would take a small sketchbook and ink pen and draw passerby on the metro. As I conitued to carve out more time, I started experimenting with watercolor and got hooked. My current watercolor series explores the sapphic gaze where I paint portraits of LGBTQ women.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Art making is a constant push and pull. And life throws new obstacles everyday. I have struggled with infertility which put my practice on a pause for a few years, but I know I can always return to art at the end of the day.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work embodies the human experience and how we see each other.
My speciality is watercolor.
I’m most proud of how daring the “As We Came” series in and how it opens the broader audience into the LGBTQ experience.
I think how I’m different is how I practice and how I see others.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think resilience and patience are most important to my success.
