Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Murchison.
Hi Kevin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but my journey began far beyond the place I was born. At the age of two, my mother moved my sister and me to Tampa, Florida, where I began experiencing life from a different perspective. A few years later, our journey continued to California, where we lived with my grandfather in Altadena before eventually making Pasadena my home. Moving from place to place at such a young age exposed me to different environments, cultures, people, and experiences that would eventually shape the person I am today. Growing up, I faced my share of trials, tribulations, obstacles, and moments that tested my character. Instead of allowing those experiences to define me negatively, I found ways to turn them into fuel. Music became one of my greatest outlets—a place where I could express what I couldn’t always say out loud. Writing became another form of freedom, allowing me to transform experiences, emotions, imagination, and life lessons into something meaningful. Along the way, I discovered that my purpose wasn’t just to tell my story, but to use my voice to help others recognize the power within their own stories.
Today, I am a rapper, battle rapper, poet, book author, playwright, and mentor. Each title represents another chapter of my evolution. Through music, I create. Through writing, I inspire. Through storytelling, I challenge perspectives. And through mentorship, I invest in the next generation. My goal is bigger than entertainment—it’s about creating an impact. I want my work to remind people that where you come from does not have to determine where you end up.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road I traveled was never easy, and it always seemed to have another surprise waiting around the corner. I experienced loss, grief, depression, self-doubt, and moments when I questioned my own strength and purpose. There were times when simply moving forward felt like a challenge. But through every difficult chapter, my family and my faith in God gave me something to hold onto. Their love, support, and encouragement reminded me that my story wasn’t over.
I came to understand that the struggles I faced weren’t the end of my journey—they were part of what shaped me. Every setback taught me something, every loss gave me perspective, and every difficult moment strengthened my desire to keep going. Today, I carry those experiences with me, not as something to be ashamed of, but as part of the foundation behind the artist, writer, mentor, and person I am becoming. My story is proof that even when the road gets dark, there can still be a reason to keep walking.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a storyteller. My story lives in everything I create. My book, Tapped INN: My Spiritual Journey, gives readers a glimpse into my childhood, the experiences that shaped me, and the personal battles I had to overcome along the way. I use my writing to open doors into parts of my life that aren’t always easy to talk about, turning pain, growth, faith, and life lessons into stories that others can connect with.
But my story doesn’t stop at the pages of a book. My music gives my emotions a voice. My poetry gives my thoughts a rhythm. My plays bring my imagination and experiences to life. Even my workouts and fitness content on Instagram show another side of who I am—the discipline, energy, and determination it takes to keep pushing forward. I wear many hats because I refuse to limit myself to one definition. I am an artist, author, rapper, poet, playwright, mentor, and creator. Every hat represents another piece of my journey, and together they tell one story: a person who turned his experiences into purpose and continues to use his voice to inspire others.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Every Friday was a new Adventure. My mother always had something up her sleeve. One day she came home from work and called our name. Me and my sister walked in and gave her the usual hugs and kisses. She sat down and said “I got us tickets to see The Incredible Hulk” we jumped and screamed at the top of our lungs. Grateful that she did that for us and we didn’t even ask. My mother will always be my true hero
