Hi Ekaterina, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started embroidering a lot while on maternity leave. I posted my works on Instagram, and my artistic career began when my embroideries started becoming popular.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Having started on this way, in addition to having my own ambitions, I also felt a responsibility towards my family. My husband agreed to give me a few years to develop my skills while he earned money. My eldest son was planning to study art at the time, and I also didn’t want to be a bad example for him. So those were not easy couple of years.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an embroidery artist, and I create realistic landscapes in my unique embroidery style.
I bring landscapes to life using a variety of threads and can create a light 3D effect in my pictures.
What I’m most proud of is that my embroideries have their own mood and style. People often say that my pictures are calming, they’re like a small window into the world of nature.
Step by step, I achieved that people are ready to pay for my pictures, and galleries began to collaborate with me. One of the latest collaborations I’m proud of is the one with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, during which a miniature picture based on a work by Renoir.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First of all, my husband’s support is very important to me. He has always believed that I would achieve something with my art. I am self‑taught in embroidery, and for me, world art has become my teacher, but what influenced me the most was abstract Art.
