Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Owens.
Hi Christopher, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age, I’ve always had an innate calling toward the arts. As a child, I was naturally expressive, energetic, and outspoken, qualities my mother recognized early on. She encouraged me to explore that creativity, which led me to become a child actor and perform in plays through my church and later in local community theaters.
That foundation eventually led me to attend the Baltimore School for the Arts, where I trained intensively in dance, focusing on ballet and modern. Those high school years were formative because they challenged me both physically and mentally, taught me a level of discipline I had never experienced before, and helped me better understand who I was as an artist and as a person.
As I grew older, my creative expression evolved. I developed a strong interest in fashion, styling, and visual presentation, which I began showcasing across my social media platforms. Sharing that side of myself felt natural and allowed me to connect with others through another form of art.
Cooking, however, has always been present in my life. Long before creating a dedicated page, I regularly shared the meals I made with friends, family, and on social media. For years, people encouraged me to start a cooking page of my own, but I hesitated while waiting for the right moment. Two years ago, I decided to stop waiting and simply start.
As I reflect on each creative chapter of my life, from performance and dance to fashion, and now culinary arts, I see that each discipline has been connected by the same thread: storytelling, expression, and artistry. Beginning my culinary journey was not a departure from my past; it was a continuation of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. If someone says it is, they are lying, but that is the beauty of life. One of my biggest struggles, especially in the beginning, was simply believing in myself. I second-guessed my decisions, procrastinated, and was not always sure of what I was doing because the fear of failing felt louder than the excitement of trying. Eventually, I realized that even if I fail this time, I can always try again. Putting yourself out there and making the effort is always worth more than doing nothing at all.
Furthermore, our brains are biologically wired to avoid risk and change in order to protect us, but that instinct can also keep us stuck. Once I overcame that mental block and gave myself the freedom to create, imperfect or not, things began to shift. Staying consistent with my passion and showing up for myself dissolved the hesitation and fear I felt in the beginning. That was when I realized how far you can go when you stop waiting for the right moment.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a digital creator who specializes in producing step-by-step cooking content that makes wholesome, from-scratch meals feel approachable and achievable at home. Through my cooking account, @chrxthecook, I focus on clarity, technique, and presentation, showing that quality food doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful.
In addition to my culinary work, I also create content centered around fashion and brand modeling on my personal account, @chrxthegoat. I’ve had the opportunity to work with brands such as Savage X Fenty and Bruno Marc Shoes, experiences that have strengthened my ability to merge professionalism with creativity across different platforms. Regardless of the medium, my work is defined by a consistent level of quality, precision, and artistry, standards I hold myself to in everything I create.
What I’m most proud of is my ability to maintain that level of intention while juggling multiple creative avenues. I set high expectations for myself, and while that internal pressure can be demanding, it has pushed me to produce work that I’m genuinely proud of and that reflects who I am as a creator.
I’ve always felt a strong calling toward the culinary arts, and having additional creative outlets has only expanded my ability to express myself more authentically, not dilute it. I don’t see versatility as a limitation; I see it as a strength. Being able to contribute across multiple forms of art while maintaining a clear sense of self and quality is what truly sets me apart.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family matters most to me because without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Growing up as the son of two immigrants from the island of Jamaica isn’t for the weak, and my upbringing looked different from many of my peers’. At the time, I didn’t always value or understand it, but as an adult, I’ve come to deeply cherish those experiences and the culture my mother instilled in both my sister and me.
My mother made sure we always had food on the table and taught us the fundamentals of cooking and food preparation at a young age. Some of my favorite memories center around the planning that went into the extravagant holiday dinners she would plan for us, as well as the catering events she would cook for. She was always over the top. We used to laugh about it, but looking back, I realize it was never about the food or decorations. It was about love, intention, and family.
She was and still is a woman of passion, resilience, and heart, and today that same passion lives in me. Family grounded me, shaped my values, and gave me the foundation I carry into everything I do.
