Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail & Ellyn Daniels.
Hi Abigail & Ellyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are sisters and always dreamed of owning a coffee shop or bakery! It was the place we wanted to visit wherever we traveled and love coffee and pastries so much and wanted to get to spend the day sharing those things with our community. We owned a food truck first called Dawn and Dusk Donuts and would open up at farmers markets in Waynesboro, but dreamed of doing more pastries, more often and getting to reach more people
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha, absolutely not! I think starting a business feels a little bit like your reaching for things in the dark, but we were absolutely sure we wanted to do it so we just kept saying, “This is our year”. When we started we would tell ourselves, “do it scared!” but now that we have been open almost 5 years we say, “do it tired”. It is really easy to do a good job one day, but consistency in excellence is doing a good job everyday. We have been so blessed to get to work with an amazing group of people that help us accomplish this AND serve an awesome community that has lots of grace.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Ellyn has always been artistic and does pottery and paints and really helps to make the space beautiful and fun. We wanted to create a space that when people walk into they delighted! We try to decorate seasonally and host special community events like littles & lattes for new moms, special fundraisers, and celebrate our birthday really big! We believe the everyday is extraordinary and really want people to be reminded of that from the moment they step into our space!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
We both grew up in a home very centered on food! Our grandparents and our mom are great bakers and cooks and did special things on holidays, birthdays, any special occasion, and honestly even on hard days just to make the day special! I’ll never forget having a warm chocolate chip cookie on a hard day at school. We both had a variety of fun jobs, like working construction with our dad, starting a food truck together, getting to do fun art projects, etc.
