Conversations with Whitney N.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney N..

Hi Whitney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey with makeup began in August 2016, when I first started practicing on myself. In 2018, I began expanding my skills by practicing on my sisters and gaining more experience through hands-on application.

One day, after doing my sister’s makeup, I jokingly posted a photo on Snapchat with the caption, “Book me.” What started as a simple joke quickly turned into genuine interest, as people began reaching out to inquire about my makeup services.

Although I recognized that I had developed a natural talent for makeup, I did not initially take my craft or business as seriously as I should have. That changed in 2023 after I attended a sermon at Union Church about the gifts and talents God gives each of us, and how developing those gifts can ultimately transform our lives and lead us toward the purpose and calling He has placed on us.

That message resonated deeply with me and encouraged me to look at my talent differently. I made a commitment to myself and to God to become more intentional, disciplined, and consistent with my craft.

Since making that commitment, I have remained dedicated to improving my skills, growing my business, and providing a professional experience for every client I serve. The consistency I committed to has allowed me to see tremendous growth, both personally and professionally.

What began as a personal interest in makeup has developed into a meaningful career and a business that I am proud to continue building. Looking back, I recognize that the talent was always there—I simply had to believe in it, invest in it, and give it the dedication it deserved.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in life comes without challenges. Obstacles and unexpected circumstances will always arise along the way, but those experiences often provide the greatest opportunities for growth.

One of the most important lessons I have learned throughout my journey is that you cannot satisfy everyone, and that is okay. Not every client who sits in your chair will necessarily be the right fit for you or your business, and learning to recognize that is an important part of growth.

I have also learned that asking for help is not a weakness. There are times when you need an extra hand, additional support, or someone with a different perspective to help you move forward.

Understanding your limitations, setting healthy boundaries, knowing when to say no, and being willing to ask for assistance are all essential parts of building a successful and sustainable business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am best known for my flawless under-eye techniques and signature soft-glam looks that create a seamless, skin-like finish. My approach to makeup focuses on enhancing natural beauty while maintaining a polished, refined appearance.

What sets me apart is my ability to incorporate UK and Nigerian-inspired makeup techniques into the DMV beauty industry. I bring together the precision, structure, and artistry of these styles with my own creative approach, creating looks that are both elevated and uniquely my own.

My goal is to provide clients with makeup that not only photographs beautifully but also feels effortless, timeless, and true to their individual features.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up surrounded by my siblings and cousins. My parents always made it a priority for us to spend time together and create meaningful memories.

I also cherish watching my parents navigate adulthood while raising a large family. Seeing them manage the responsibilities that came with having many children while continuing to grow, succeed, and build a life for our family taught me valuable lessons about perseverance, responsibility, and the importance of family.

Those experiences shaped many of the values I carry with me today and continue to influence the person I am both personally and professionally.
