Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey-Marie Williams.
Hi Stacey-Marie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I actually started baking in a very casual way; during my lunch breaks at work, I used to watch cake and cupcake decorating videos on YouTube and thought, “I could try that”. What started as a fun experiment quickly turned into a passion. I began bringing my treats to church, family gatherings and friends’ events, and before I knew it, people were asking if they could place orders. That’s how Iconic Desserts was born; very organically and a little unintentionally. Over time, it grew from a hobby into a luxury dessert business, and now I’m working towards expanding into elevated breakfast pastries and curated dessert experiences. It’s been a lot of learning, late nights and trial and error, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. Looking back, it’s funny how something that started as a lunchtime YouTube habit turned into a full business, but I’m grateful for every step of the journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There’s been a lot of trial and error; some beautiful wins and a few “what was I thinking?” moments. In the beginning, I was figuring out everything on my own, from pricing to branding to how long it actually takes to decorate a cake at midnight. Working from home meant balancing my career and family life with production, and I quickly learned that buttercream does not care about your schedule. I’ve also had to learn how to set boundaries, say no, give myself grace, and treat this like a real business instead of a fun hobby that just happened to pay. But every challenge taught me something valuable, and honestly, the mishaps make the best stories. If nothing else, I’ve learned that striving for perfection is great, but progress, God and coffee is essential.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I run Iconic Desserts, a luxury dessert and pastry business specializing in custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies and elevated pastries. I’m known for clean, modern designs, thoughtful flavor pairings and desserts that feel both elegant and approachable; beautiful enough for a celebration, but still meant to be enjoyed, not just admired. What sets me apart is the attention to detail and the experience I try to create around each order, from presentation to packaging to the little personal touches that make clients feel cared for. I’m also really intentional about using quality ingredients and creating flavors that feel familiar but elevated. What I’m most proud of is how organically the business has grown; starting from baking for family and church, to serving weddings, events, and corporate clients. Seeing people celebrate their milestones with something I created never gets old, and it still feels a little surreal that something that started as a hobby turned into a brand people trust for their special moments.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think the dessert and pastry industry will become more experience-driven over the next 5 – 10 years. People may still want indulgence, but they’re more intentional about what they’re eating, so I think we’ll see more high-quality ingredients, smaller portions and desserts that feel thoughtful rather than excessive. There’s also a big shift toward global flavors and creative twists on classics, which I love because it keeps the industry really creative. Personalization, storytelling and sustainability will continue to grown, along with dietary-inclusive options. Honestly, social media will keep driving innovation; if it looks beautiful and tastes amazing, people will share it. I think the future of desserts is less about mass production and more about craft, creativity and connection; basically, desserts with a story and a purpose, not just sugar on a plate.
