Conversations with Paola Henriquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Henriquez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Paola Henriquez, and I was born and raised in Colombia. I moved to Maryland in 2018, but my love for makeup began 17 years ago, when I first stepped into a makeup academy in Argentina. Over the years, I had to keep that part of me hidden. I finished my bachelor’s in psychology and moved to the USA, but when the pandemic hit, that part of me stayed behind. I had two wonderful children and got married, and even though life was good, I still felt like something was missing. As a mother and full-time teacher, finding time for myself was challenging, but I started learning to navigate those feelings and find the part of me I’d hidden for years. I took self-makeup classes, then moved on to professional classes, and I can finally say that all of me feels complete. I found in the beauty industry a way to support other women who went through the same situations, or are currently trying to remember who they were before having children, or how beautiful they are. For me, makeup is a fun way to show how powerful women can be.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. It’s been a path full of ups and downs. It took me 17 years to finally do what I love. First, I made my family happy by finishing a bachelor’s degree, then moving from one country to another, which is a lot to process and navigate.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a makeup artist specializing in social and soft glam looks. I’m known for understanding my clients’ needs and helping them feel beautiful while staying true to themselves.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I feel more comfortable doing other people’s makeup than on myself 😂
