Conversations with Nick Sevilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Sevilla.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started creating content once the pandemic hit. Was streaming video games at home, and wanted a better reach to obtain new viewers. Created my first TikTok account “AlgeBruh” and was the math teacher who played video games. Over the course of a few year, that blew up to 180,000 followers at one point, and gave me opportunities within the gaming space. After a certain point, I had accomplished all I wanted to playing the primary game I was focused on, and as I continued to grow in my full-time profession as a teacher, I couldn’t spend hours on the game trying to farm content for that anymore. So I made a new page with a primary focus on local restaurants and exploring new cuisines. That started really in 2025, when I posted everyday over the summer. Now, i’m still working full time as a teacher, while working on “Mr. 8 That” as a side job/personal project.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Creating content requires you to stay intrinsically motivated because for the most part, you are your own worst critic, and you’re creating content because you enjoy it. There are definitely days where I don’t feel like putting the work in to either organize plans, edit a video, all while balancing my full-time jobs and personal relationships. Sometimes it’s a balancing act , but ultimately I continue because it’s my creative outlet and gives me a sense of personal pride and happiness.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Full-Time:
Middle school math teacher of 13 years, been at my current school for 11 years. I’ve taught everything from Grade 6 math through Algebra 1. I also coach our schools boys basketball team, and the JV baseball team at the nearby highschool. I’m most proud that I can be around in the community and former students, those who weren’t even in my class, feel comfortable to come up and chat and just be regular people with me. Those lasting relationships are what make teaching so satisfying.

Part-Time:
Mr. 8 That, a social media presence focusing on local and new restaurants in the DMV and surrounding areas. We rate our experience based on flavor and price and they both get a score 1-5. If the sum of the two scores is above 8, we would say the restaurant “8 THAT.” That is a play on the phrase, “you ate” like you did a great job, but also alludes to the score signifying a quality experience that I would recommend.

How do you think about luck?
With social media especially, luck is always involved in some shape or form. Whether a video or post takes off can come down to something as simple as how the first 300 people interact with it. There’s some luck involved there, especially if you haven’t figured out a video formula that works for you and you know will be successful.

I think i’m also lucky to have multiple outlets to enjoy doing the things that i’ve loved my entire life; coaching (sports), content (food), and teaching (positive influence on the youth).
