Ja-Lyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
AJ’s Creationz was born from something I’ve always loved—being creative and bringing people’s ideas to life. What started as making personalized items for family and friends became a passion that I knew I wanted to turn into something bigger.
I started with the basics, learning through trial and error, investing in my equipment, and teaching myself new techniques along the way. As my confidence grew, so did AJ’s Creationz. I expanded from personalized Cricut creations and party favors into balloon décor, arches, garlands, columns, event decorations, and custom party details.
Building a business while balancing everyday life hasn’t always been easy, but every order, customer, referral, and word of encouragement has pushed me to keep going. I’ve learned that you don’t have to start with everything figured out—you just have to start, be willing to learn, and keep improving.
Today, AJ’s Creationz is more than just a business to me. It’s a reflection of my creativity, hard work, and determination. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even more excited about where I’m going. My goal is to continue growing AJ’s Creationz into a brand known for fun, colorful, personalized creations and memorable event experiences.
This is only the beginning, and I’m excited to see where my creativity takes me next!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the hardest parts of having a small business is dealing with the ups and downs. There are times when business is really slow and I may go days or even weeks without an order. During those moments, I sometimes question myself and wonder what I could be doing differently.
Then, just when things feel slow, everything can change. I’ll suddenly have multiple orders come in, several events booked, and so much to prepare for at once. It can go from feeling like, “Is anybody going to book me?” to, “Okay, I have a lot of work to do!”
Learning how to handle those highs and lows has been a big part of my journey. I’ve had to learn patience, consistency, and not let a slow period make me feel like I’m failing. I remind myself that slow seasons don’t mean my business isn’t growing.
There have definitely been frustrating moments, but I’m proud of myself for continuing to show up, promote my business, learn new things, and keep creating. Every order and every event reminds me why I started AJ’s Creationz in the first place.

AJ’s Creationz is a creative party and event décor business where I get to turn people’s ideas into something they can actually see and enjoy. I specialize in balloon décor, including arches, garlands, and columns, as well as personalized party favors and custom Cricut creations such as chip bags, water bottle labels, stickers, and other details that help bring a theme together.
One special part of my journey has been the amazing teacher who taught me how to use my Cricut. She started out as my teacher, but along the way she became a friend and someone who really helped me discover and build my creativity. I’m truly grateful for the time, patience, and knowledge she shared with me. What she taught me opened the door for me to create so many things that I may not have had the confidence to try on my own.
What I love most is being able to take someone’s vision—even if they only have a few ideas—and turn it into something fun, colorful, and personal. I pay attention to the little details because I believe those are the things that make an event feel special.
I’m most proud of how much I’ve taught myself and how far I’ve come since I first started. I didn’t start out knowing everything about balloons, customization, pricing, or running a business. I’ve learned through experience, trial and error, and by surrounding myself with people who were willing to teach and encourage me.
What sets me apart is that I genuinely care about my customers and the experience I create for them. I’m not just trying to complete an order—I want my work to make someone excited when they see the finished product. I want customers to look at their event and say, “This is exactly what I pictured!”
For me, AJ’s Creationz is about creativity, personalization, and making people’s celebrations feel like their own. I’m proud to be building something that reflects who I am and gives me the opportunity to bring a little more color and joy to someone’s special day.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my family, my purpose, and being able to build something that I can truly call my own.
My family is a huge part of why I keep going. I want to show my children that you can start with an idea, work hard, learn along the way, and turn that idea into something meaningful. I want them to see me pursuing something I love and not giving up when things get difficult.
AJ’s Creationz also matters to me because it gives me an outlet to be creative and allows me to make people happy. There’s something special about seeing a customer’s reaction when they receive something I created or walk into an event that I decorated. Knowing that I helped make someone’s celebration memorable means a lot to me.
I also value the people who have helped me along the way. From the friend who took the time to teach me how to use my Cricut to the customers who continue to support and recommend me, I don’t take those relationships for granted.
Most importantly, I want to keep growing. I want AJ’s Creationz to become something bigger than what it is today while still keeping the personal touch that made me start in the first place. I want to be proud of what I’m building and know that I never gave up on myself.
