Conversations with Gigi Sellers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gigi Sellers.

Hi Gigi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story is a testimony of redemption. I grew up in chaos and turned to the world for comfort. I searched for happiness and peace in the world, and made counterfeits for myself out of partying, travel, and thrills, but I always ended up feeling empty.

I grew up in the church, but didn’t know Jesus. I truly met him at my lowest point, and he changed my entire life.

My story is not my own, my life is not my own, but it was bought at a high price.

God has taken me to places I could’ve never taken myself, and introduced me to people I could’ve never met. By Gods grace and provision, I’ve served as a missionary in Honduras, Ecuador, The Dominican Republic, Liberia, Uganda, and in various parts of the United States.

Mission isn’t just something I do, it’s who I am as a person submitted to Christ. It isn’t just where God has already taken me, but every next step.

Mission is never bigger than the one person in front of you.

I’ve learned that all humans have a deep longing for the same thing. True peace and relationship with their Creator. They want to know the purpose of life, and what happens when they die.

I truly don’t have any impressive skills, or qualifications that have taken me to these places. God has opened doors that no man can shut and made a way where there was no way.

My hope is that the hopeless will know that there is a God who loves them, who died for them, and who is coming back for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Following Jesus has meant leaving behind everything that was comfortable and predictable. I’ve lost many friends and close relationships on this journey. I’ve lost material possessions and selfish goals. But I have gained something much greater- truth and peace that can never be taken away from me!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a self taught Spanish speaker, which has allowed for many connections all over the world. I have taught English and translated in various settings. I’ve also helped trauma victims through art therapy. Some of my favorite art forms are dance, song, ceramics and painting. I love meeting new people, talking about life and Jesus and pouring into others.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I aspire to live a life dedicated to mission, sharing the truth of Jesus and serving others both locally and internationally.

I will leave you with the best advice I’ve ever received; “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
God is not distant, seek Him with a sincere heart and you will find Him.
