Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Young Stefon Easter.
Hi Dominique Young, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Myself and Stefon met around 2017 while working at the same Stretch Therapy studio in DC. During our time at that studio, we became really close friends. We worked out together, sharpened our craft, and created an environment that was very fun and customer-friendly. We worked our way up within the company and were both managing studios in DC. In 2020, after COVID hit, we ended our time with that studio and decided that we wanted to start a partnership where we could create our own process and see our clients in the comfort of their home, versus in a studio. After hours of planning, we came up with Prime Motion Wellness, a wellness company that would offer personal training and Stretch Therapy all in home or meeting the client where they are.
Beginning a business during COVID was unlike anything we could have ever imagined. Of course there were some people who were still very skeptical about having people in their home. Because of that, we created an online platform where people could stretch or work out with us virtually. This helped us to create a rapport in the community and build our clientele beyond those that knew of us from the studio. Today, I work with most of my clients on a part-time basis. I also have a partnership with a bike shop that I pop in and do sessions a few times a month. Stefon does this work full time. He has a partnership with a local country club and a gym where he takes clients throughout the week.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We began this on a rocky road, being as though it was during COVID! So, nothing has necessarily been smooth or easy. With any ebb and flow of business, we have busier seasons and some that are extremely slow. We have both also gotten married and started our own families since starting this, which also creates somewhat of a challenge. But, we have had plenty of successes, which keeps us going.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dominique: Currently, I work full-time as a Safety and Accessibility Director for a non-profit that serves individuals with intellectual disabilities and part-time I am a Stretch Therapy practitioner and co-owner of Prime Motion Wellness. I specialize in safety preparation and response along with fitness and mobility.
After ending our time with the studio in DC, I decided to become a Firefighter/EMT and did that for about 4 years. This would end up being a career and skillset that I am most proud of. After sustaining an injury and the arrival of my first child, I decided to step out of the field and use my safety skills and non-profit education. All this time, I am continuing to see my Stretch Therapy clients who have weathered these schedule and career changes with me. For Prime Motion Wellness, I specialize in supporting with mobility needs and stretching.
I have also maintained my EMT licensure and have become a CPR instructor – which is now a service we offer with Prime Motion Wellness. CPR education and certification is the newest offering that I feel extremely passionate about. My experience as a Firefighter put me in situations that I believe everyone could learn from and apply to their own lives. I want to ensure our community knows how to care for themselves and how to care for others in the event of an emergency. I believe our compassion for our community and focus on customer service sets us apart from others and has allowed our clients to become friends and family.
Stefon: I’m a personal trainer, stretch and massage therapist. Most of my week is spent 1 on 1 with clients, wide range different athletes, desk workers, older adults helping them move better, get stronger, feel less restricted, and recover faster. I specialize in hands on assisted stretch therapy combined with targeted mobility and stability work. I also specialize in overall fitness training.
I’m known for working with almost anyone! That includes babies to the older population. People living with conditions like cerebral palsy, MS, or Parkinson’s. Also athletes across a wide range of sports. I also work with clients who want to lose weight as well as those looking to build muscle and gain size.Whatever the starting point or goal, my focus is the same, to help each person move better and get closer to their goal.
I am most proud of my ability to gain clients strictly off of word of mouth. I’m am also most proud of never hurting or injuring a client, my clients only walk away feeling better. I’m also proud of my career so far! I’ve taken just stretching a few of my training clients for 10 minutes after workouts. To now having clients that want 30-90 minute stretch and massage sessions across multiple locations and homes everyday of the week.
My focus on mobility and stretch therapy, helping clients move more like they did in their prime, is a different approach than most trainers and therapists take. I work to increase their body awareness so they start valuing this work the same way I do. I am also driven by figuring out WHY someone is tight or why they can no longer move the way they used to. Getting to the root of the problem becomes not just my obsession, but theirs. Instead of living with pain for months at a time, clients learn to actively address aches and restriction and many discover that consistent stretch therapy is one of the most important pieces of moving better and feeling better every day.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Entreprenueralship in general is a risk! We took a risk together leaving a company to start our own. Dominique took a risk in joining the Fire Department and Stefon takes a risk every day relying on entreprenueralship for full-time work. We both think that putting ourselves out there and going to peoples homes is a risk as well, but we have been blessed to come across very genuine and welcoming clients.
