Conversations with Ayobami Akindele

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayobami Akindele.

Hi Ayobami, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey over 13 years ago as an event planner and interior designer. Along the way, I discovered a deeper passion for floral design and event décor, which gradually became the heart of my creative work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a completely smooth road. Like many creative entrepreneurs, I have faced seasons of uncertainty, financial pressure, difficult clients, changing trends, and the challenge of balancing creativity with the business side of the industry. There were also moments when I had to reinvent myself, learn new skills, and become more confident in the value of my work.

One of the biggest lessons has been understanding that talent alone is not enough to build a sustainable business. I had to learn pricing, client management, team building, negotiations, and how to create boundaries while still providing excellent service. There were times when I questioned whether I was on the right path, but each challenge helped me grow.

Over the years, I have learned to see those struggles as part of the journey. They pushed me to become more intentional, resilient, and innovative, and they ultimately helped shape the designer and businesswoman I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Today, my work is centered around floral design and event décor. I specialize in transforming spaces for weddings, milestone celebrations, corporate events, and other special occasions through intentional floral installations, beautiful tablescapes, draping, stage designs, statement backdrops, and custom décor concepts.

I would say I am known for creating designs that feel elegant, sophisticated, lush, and thoughtfully put together. My background in interior design has also shaped the way I approach events. I do not just look at individual decorations; I look at the entire space—its scale, colors, flow, lighting, and architectural details—and think about how everything can work together to create an experience.

What I am most proud of is the growth that has taken place over the years. What began more than 13 years ago as event planning and interior design evolved into discovering what I truly love: floral artistry and transforming spaces. I am proud that I have continued to learn, evolve, and build a business around something I genuinely enjoy creating.

What sets me apart is my attention to detail and personalized approach. I do not believe every event should look the same. I take time to understand each client’s vision and then bring my own creativity and design perspective to it. Whether the celebration is intimate or large-scale, my goal is always the same: to create an atmosphere that feels intentional, memorable, and beautiful—something that makes people walk into the room and immediately feel that they are experiencing something special.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that may surprise people who know me through my creative work is that I also have a professional background in healthcare and behavioral health. I graduated with a degree in Microbiology and currently work as a Rehabilitation Specialist.

Most people see the floral designs, beautiful events, and transformed spaces, but they may not realize that there is also a very analytical, structured, and service-driven side of me. My background in science and rehabilitation has strengthened my attention to detail, problem-solving skills, compassion, and ability to work closely with people from different backgrounds.
That background still influences the way I design today. I naturally look beyond the flowers and pay attention to the entire environment—the layout, balance, scale, textures, colors, and how guests will experience the space.

I am proud that my journey has allowed me to combine science, service, creativity, and entrepreneurship. It is a reminder that we do not have to be defined by just one passion or one career path.
