Hi MariaClementina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The CEO and Founder of MariaClementina Beauty, Mariaclementina Rutayuga is a Mental Health Advocate, Model, Creative Director, Model and Self taught Makeup Artist who developed her love for the beauty industry towards the end of 2019.
MariaClementina Rutayuga was born and raised in Maryland, USA of Tanzanian Decent. MariaClementina has very dark and sensitive skin. She was teased as a young child for trying to wear anything that was bold and colorful. She used the negativity as fuel to ignite her dream!
She is not your average artists, as she found her love as being a model first and not enjoying the “regular or traditional” makeup looks other makeup artists did on her and other women with darker skin tones.
Modeling from 2009 till 2019 have been a long ten years trying to find the perfect brands to utilize to create all the perfect concepts and looks. Mariaclementina Beauty offers a range of styles and colors for ALL skin tones. Mariaclementina Beauty allows creatives to Be YOU and FULL of confidence! MariaClementina Beauty curates handmade, natural, vegan and cruelty free products, provides esthetic services specializing in full body waxing, facial treatments and makeup. Each product is specifically named in either Swahili or Luhaya to promote Tanzanian culture and language in makeup !
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some challenges that were present was having support along the way from loved ones and friends. It was very discouraging in the beginning but over time as a business owner you learn to appreciate those who do not know you but love what you do and become amazing supporters.

MariaClementina Beauty is a multifaceted business that is known for not being your average makeup artist, but a cosmetic chemist and creating her own handmade, natural makeup products. Also specializing in corrective skincare, full body waxing and a safe space for everyone. As a first generation Tanzanian, she promotes and educates everyone she comes around on Swahili culture and loves connecting the two, beauty and culture.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice that I would give to someone starting out is to never give up, it may be cliche but the first few years are not the same for everyone. Some months are a success and some can be slow, but as long as you keep showing up for yourself and your business, things will be fine.
