Hi Jillian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been drawn to the arts for as long as I can remember. Curiosity pushed me beyond a single medium, turning me into a Jil-of-all-trades with a versatile, ever-evolving creative skill set. That range has allowed me to adapt quickly, think holistically, and approach every project from multiple angles.
Since 2012, I’ve worked as a freelancer in web design, branding, and digital graphics for emerging businesses. Along the way, I’ve illustrated book covers, led advertising campaigns, directed photoshoots, and edited video—supporting brands across a wide range of industries.
Now operating independently, I collaborate with individuals and entrepreneurs who want to stand out, break the mold, and grow with intention. I’m driven by meaningful partnerships, thoughtful designs, and the satisfaction of seeing the people I work with succeed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road had not been an easy one. An abrupt falling out with a former business partner forced me to start from scratch, with a gutted portfolio and limited connections. But I didn’t slow down—I rebuilt. Within one week, I launched a whole new brand from the ground up, including a fresh name, logo, website, and a solid set of goals. What initially had felt like the end of my career became the start of something stronger. That setback clarified my abilities and proved I can build and run a successful business independently.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about VIJILANT Digital?
VIJILANT Digital is a play on words rooted in my name, Jil, and guided by a core principle of my work: Vigilance. The central eye motif reflects my commitment to staying alert, attentive, and always one step ahead, for the sake of my clients and their creative visions. I’m constantly watching what’s new in the local art community, and identifying meaningful ways to support and empower others.
My company bridges art and technology, elevating brands through innovative, creative solutions designed to inspire and engage. My services include custom graphic design, illustrations, website design, event photography and videography (with editing), and social media management. While my primary focus is supporting local art communities—working closely with galleries and solo artists to grow their presence—I’m always excited to expand beyond the arts and explore new creative territories.
With a background in art and a designer’s careful eye, I bring both technical skill and deep creative discernment to every project. I recognize the challenges, creative blocks, and vulnerabilities artists face, which allows me to connect with clients on a level built on mutual understanding, respect, and trust. That shared perspective is what turns collaborations into lasting partnerships.
I believe in realistic goals and attainable results. Rather than selling promises of grandeur or overnight wealth, I focus on meeting artists where they are and supporting steady, organic growth that feels authentic, sustainable, and true to their work and personalities.
How do you define success?
I believe the bar for success is much lower and more attainable than many people assume. Success isn’t defined by wealth or follower counts, but by the knowledge and experience you gain, and how you use them to grow. It’s about learning from past mistakes, recognizing where you are lacking, and making a conscious effort to continuously improve. That willingness to reflect, adapt, and keep moving forward is what truly drives success.
Adaptability and the capacity to stay clear-headed, develop a plan, and take decisive action under pressure or tight deadlines has consistently allowed my work to stand out and move projects forward. No matter where a curveball is thrown, I will always find a way to drive the situation toward an advantageous result.
