Community Highlights: Meet Jessica of Connected Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been someone who loves creating. I was the kid with a big imagination, constantly coming up with ideas and finding new ways to create. That creativity led me into the beauty industry, where I spent more than 25 years as a hairstylist and color educator.

What I loved most about that work wasn’t just hair or beauty, it was helping people feel confident. I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, hear their stories, and be part of important moments in their lives. Those years taught me a lot about connection, service, and the impact a simple act of kindness can have on someone else’s day. I also realized I wasn’t just passionate about beauty, I was passionate about creating, building, and finding new ways to serve people.
As my career evolved, so did my interests. While building Connected Boutique, I found myself diving deeper into marketing, social media, e-commerce, and community building. Like many small business owners, I learned by doing, creating content, managing online stores, connecting with customers, and finding ways to grow. I also had the chance to work with nonprofits and this expanded my view and showed me the importance of building genuine connections.
The inspiration for Connected Boutique came from both personal experience and my family. Like many people, I struggled to find products that worked well for sensitive skin, and I became interested in ingredients, formulation, and creating products with intention. What started as curiosity slowly turned into a vision for a brand that could combine beauty, creativity, and purpose.

Launching Connected Boutique wasn’t a single moment, it was the result of years of learning, growing, and taking chances. I’ve built the business one step at a time, wearing every hat along the way, from product development and marketing to customer service and fulfillment. Every challenge taught me something new, and every milestone reminded me why I started.
As Connected Boutique grew, life presented challenges that changed my perspective. When my daughter began experiencing serious health issues, I found myself paying even closer attention to ingredients, wellness, and the products we bring into our lives every day. Like many parents, I wanted the best for my child, and that experience reinforced my belief that products should be created with care, transparency, and purpose.
That season of life reminded me that business can be about more than selling products. It can be about solving problems, building trust, creating community, and making a positive impact. That belief eventually inspired Connected for a Cause, an initiative that allows Connected Boutique to support causes and organizations making a difference in the lives of others.

I’ve seen firsthand how much community support can matter during difficult times, and I wanted to build those values into the foundation of the brand. Connected for a Cause became a natural extension of what Connected Boutique represents: connection, compassion, and using what we’ve built to help others whenever we can.
Today, Connected Boutique represents more than beauty products to me. It’s the combination of everything I’ve learned throughout my life and career: creativity, resilience, community, and the belief that meaningful things are built one step at a time. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to build a business while navigating everything else life throws your way. As a small business owner, I’ve worn a lot of hats from product development and marketing to customer service and fulfillment and much of it was learned through experience.

My daughter’s health challenges also had a significant impact on both my life and my business. That experience changed my perspective on ingredients, wellness, and the importance of community. It reinforced my commitment to building Connected Boutique with intention and purpose.

Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve experienced setbacks, slow seasons, and moments where I had to rethink the plan. Every challenge taught me something and I believe those challenges made both me and the business stronger.

As you know, we’re big fans of Connected Boutique . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Connected Boutique is a cruelty-free beauty brand built on the belief that beauty should be intentional, accessible, and created with care. What started as a curiosity about ingredients and a desire to create products with intention eventually evolved into a brand built on creativity, connection, and community.

What sets us apart is the heart behind the brand. As a small business owner, I’m involved in every aspect of Connected Boutique, from product development and marketing to customer service and fulfillment. That hands-on approach allows me to stay connected to both the products we create and the people we serve.

One of the things I’m most proud of is our Connected for a Cause initiative. I’ve always believed a business can be about more than selling products, and this initiative allows us to support causes and organizations making a positive impact in their communities.

At its core, Connected Boutique is about connection, creativity, and creating products with purpose.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My definition of success has changed over the years. Younger I probably would have measured it by achievements. Today, I define success as building a life that aligns with my values while making a positive impact on others.

Success is having the freedom to create, continue learning, support my family, and build something meaningful. It’s knowing that the work I’m doing matters, whether that’s helping a customer, supporting a cause through Connected for a Cause, or simply showing up and continuing to move forward during challenging seasons.

For me, success isn’t about perfection or reaching a specific achievement. It’s about growth, resilience, and creating a life and business that reflect who I am and what I believe in.
