Community Highlights: Meet Chris Robertson of Truck of Deliciousness Food Truck and Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Robertson.

Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Our story started with a love for food and a desire to build something of our own. I started in the food business with the goal of creating great food and bringing people together. After college, I bought a used step van and built my first food truck, eventually opening in 2014.

It hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had to adapt to changing business conditions, rising costs, and all of the challenges that come with running a small business. But each challenge has helped us grow, learn, and find new opportunities.

Today, we operate as a food truck and catering business, while also offering mobile bar and bartending services. We also have a commercial kitchen space that allows other food businesses and entrepreneurs to have a place to work and grow their own businesses.

Through all of the changes over the years, one thing has never changed our passion for what we do. We genuinely enjoy being in this industry and getting to meet so many different people through our business. Whether we’re serving at a large event, catering a private party, or helping another small business get started, we love being a part of those experiences.

There are definitely long days and challenges, but seeing people enjoy our food, watching an event come together, and knowing that we’re building something of our own makes it all worthwhile. We’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited about where we’re going next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. When we first started, we had a menu that was simply too large, and we quickly learned that sometimes less is more. We had to scale back our menu and focus on the items we did best grilled cheeses.

We’ve also faced some of the unexpected challenges that come with operating a food truck. Major repairs and having to replace engines. Rising food and operating costs and staffing shortages. Each of those challenges has tested us in different ways.

There have definitely been difficult moments, but we’ve always found a way to manage each obstacle and keep moving forward. Those experiences have taught us to be adaptable, make tough decisions, and never give up when things don’t go as planned. Every challenge has ultimately made us stronger and better prepared for whatever comes next.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Truck of Deliciousness is a food truck and catering business based in Maryland. We have traveled to Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia for events. We specialize in serving fresh, delicious comfort food with a focus on gourmet sandwiches, burgers, grilled cheeses, tacos. Don’t like one of those menus we can create a custom menu for your next event.

Over the years, we’ve grown beyond just being a food truck. We also provide catering for private parties, corporate events, festivals, community events, and other special occasions. We have a mobile bar and bartending services.

We also operate a commercial kitchen space that gives other food businesses, food trucks, and entrepreneurs a place to prepare, grow, and operate their own businesses.

What sets us apart is that we’re more than just a food vendor. We really care about the experience we provide. We enjoy interacting with our customers, becoming part of their events, and creating food that people genuinely enjoy. We’ve built our business around being flexible and finding ways to serve our customers, whether that’s at a local festival, a corporate event, a private party, or through catering.

We’ve had to evolve along the way, but we’ve stayed true to our passion for good food, great service, and bringing people together.
Most importantly, we want people to know that when they choose Truck of Deliciousness, they’re supporting a small, family-owned business that truly loves what we do.

Any big plans?
Looking ahead, we’re excited about continuing to grow Truck of Deliciousness and finding the right opportunity to expand. One of our goals is to eventually find another commercial location that is better suited for our business and allows us to expand our offerings and reach more customers.

We previously opened a carry-out location, but unfortunately, the location wasn’t ideal and was too far off the beaten path to generate the traffic we needed. While closing that location was a difficult decision, it ultimately allowed us to refocus our energy on the food truck and catering side of the business, which has been a great fit for us.

We’ve also been able to turn that experience into an opportunity for others. We’ve repurposed the space into a commercial kitchen where other food businesses and entrepreneurs can have access to the equipment and space they need to get started or grow their own businesses. We’re really excited about that part of our business because we know firsthand how challenging it can be to get started.

We’re looking forward to continuing to grow, expanding our services, and hopefully finding the right location to take the business to the next level. Most of all, we’re excited to keep doing what we love while creating opportunities for ourselves and other small business owners along the way.
