Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda DeSanto.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve loved skincare since childhood—my Puerto Rican mom had me on a routine before most kids even knew what moisturizer was. After working in fashion, makeup, and retail management, I eventually followed the pull to esthetician school. I originally thought I’d go into medical aesthetics, but my own skin journey changed everything. I struggled with acne and melasma for years, and the more invasive treatments I tried just weren’t giving me the results I hoped for. It wasn’t until I shifted to gentler, plant‑based products that my skin finally began to heal and thrive, and that transformation completely reshaped my philosophy.
Today, with Skin by Amanda, I focus on non‑invasive treatments, plant‑based products, and women‑owned brands, creating a nurturing space where clients feel supported, understood, and naturally radiant.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business wasn’t a smooth road, but it was an easy decision. I built Skin by Amanda on my own with very little resources, and there were plenty of moments where it felt overwhelming—juggling costs, learning the business side, and figuring things out as I went. But even in the hard parts, my vision stayed clear. I knew I wanted to create a nurturing, non‑invasive, plant‑based space for clients, and that belief kept me moving forward.
We’ve been impressed with Skin by Amanda, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Skin by Amanda is a holistic skincare studio specializing in non‑invasive facials, plant‑based products, and a nurturing, grounded client experience. I focus on long‑term skin health through gentle, barrier‑supportive treatments that help clients feel calm, cared for, and confident in their skin. Clients know me for creating a cozy, restorative environment where every service is customized and education is part of the experience.
What sets me apart is my commitment to intentional, gentle skincare—no harsh treatments or trends—just clean, plant‑based formulations, women‑owned brands, and techniques that honor the skin’s natural rhythms. I also curate detailed at‑home skincare routines that fit each client’s lifestyle and price point. I truly believe skincare doesn’t have to cost a fortune to deliver amazing results, and I love helping clients build routines that feel accessible and effective.
I’m most proud that I built this business entirely on my own, guided by a clear vision and a desire to offer a different kind of facial experience. My goal is for every client to leave feeling supported, understood, and naturally radiant.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to start with what you have and stay clear on why you’re doing it. When I launched my business, I had very few resources and had to figure out a lot on my own. It was challenging, but it taught me to be intentional, patient, and focused on my own path instead of comparing myself to others. I also wish I knew earlier that you don’t need everything to be perfect to begin—clarity and consistency matter far more. Trust your vision, stay true to your philosophy, and let your business grow at its own pace.
