Check Out Tonia Akapo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonia Akapo.

Hi Tonia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I started this home health care business because we had a shared vison. I witnessed firsthand the challenges that many families face when trying to access quality care, resources, and support. We saw how difficult it can be for individuals to navigate healthcare systems, advocate for themselves, and find the services they need to live safely and independently.

My inspiration comes from my grandparents.

My grandmother faced many barriers when it came to accessing healthcare and community resources. there were many factors that often made it difficult for her to communicate her needs, understand her options, and advocate for herself. I saw how easily vulnerable individuals can be overlooked when they lack the support and guidance needed to navigate complex systems.

My grandfather was a proud veteran who dedicated his life to serving others. Through his journey, I became aware of the many programs, benefits, and resources available to veterans. However, I also recognized that many veterans and their families are unaware of these services or face challenges accessing them. I saw an opportunity to help bridge that gap by connecting veterans with the resources they have earned through their service and ensuring they receive the support needed to age in place with dignity, honor, and respect.

These experiences shaped my purpose and fueled my passion to create something greater than a home health care agency.

We founded this company to be a voice for those who may not have one, an advocate for the underserved, and a trusted partner for families navigating life’s most challenging transitions. Our mission extends beyond providing care. We are committed to helping our clients access vital resources, connecting them with trusted community partners, educating families about available services, and advocating for their well-being every step of the way.

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to age safely in the place they call home while maintaining their independence, dignity, and quality of life. Whether serving seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities, or families facing barriers to care, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one feels alone in their journey.

My grandparents’ experiences continue to inspire everything we do. Their stories remind us that compassionate care is not just about meeting physical needs—it is about listening, empowering, advocating, and creating pathways to better live.

This business was built on the belief that every person deserves access to quality care, meaningful support, and the resources necessary to thrive. Through advocacy, education, and compassionate service, we strive to be a catalyst for positive change in the communities we serve and a trusted resource for those who need us most.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say the key challenges would be getting in the rooms with change makers; those who help bridge the gap with law makers and community advocates, building a core team of trusted providers that share our vision and align with our goals and building capital to fund the vision and scale.
