Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwamumisorire Moradeyo.
Hi Oluwamumisorire, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story as a creator began when my dad complained that I was using my phone too much and spending money on data when other people were making money off my doomscrolling. His message was I should use my phone less but what I got from it was to find a way to make money with my phone. I studied Architecture and I now work in the construction industry. But I’m also a very girly girl so I decided to document my life as a way to show people that you can comfortably be yourself and still find a place in the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. What’s life without ups and downs? From men not taking you seriously because they assume you care too much about your appearance to have anything important to say to the mess that we call social media algorithms. These things are enough to make you crash out at least 12 times a day. But you just have to keep pushing especially when you have a goal in mind.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I honestly wanted to pick 2 options because I consider myself a professional creative. As I said, I studied Architecture and I currently work in the project management team of a 28 storey construction project. My team ensures the project is delivered on time, within budget and to the high quality our clients trust us for. I’d say in my profession, I’m known for my people skills and my problem-solving skills. I help translate technical terms into words our clients can easily understand while still showing that I know what I’m doing and that seriously breeds trust. I’m also good with designs and finding ways to actualize clients’ dreams into realistic designs that are then implemented byt at the end of the day, I think it’s still my people skills that set me apart from others and I owe that to my mom and my colleague turned friend Willabelle.
In the creative sense, I just try to document my life as much as I’m comfortable doing. I try to chase memories instead of aesthetics and I’d say that’s what sets me apart from others. Don’t get me wrong, I loveeeee aesthetics. But it’s harder to enjoy the moment when you’re too focused on finding the right angles instead of capturing feelings. I’ve had people tell me my content invokes joy and happiness and I absolutely love that. My life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows but I find that when I focus on the good parts, the bad parts start to seem smaller and less scary.
What I’m most proud of; hmmm. I think I’m most proud of my community. I have a community of people that love me and even beyond that, I’ve been able to inspire people. Small Sorire? Inspiring people? Wow!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favourite childhood memory. I can’t pick one particular one, but I really enjoyed going to the beach with my family when I was younger. My dad worked far away so he was only around late in the night and early in the morning, so we didn’t get much time with him during the week, but he dedicated his weekends fully to us (and the church). We used to go to the beach reguarly on Saturdays, ride horses, get ice-cream, good times. Now, most of the beaches in Lagos have been sand-filled or turned into real estate developments.
