Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Pensak.
Hi Melanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up spending many hours outside in the woods and felt a strong pull back into the natural world 10 years ago. I found a deep sense of peace and healing spending intentional time on the land. Over time, I began teaching nature meditation and intentional earth practices to others in the way that I practice mindfulness in nature.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Choosing to spend more time outside and unplugging asks you to step out of the productivity hustle of our modern society. It was challenging to go against the stream at first and follow the calling of spending more time outside at first when peers were partying.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Recently, I published my first book, Love for the Land: Practices for Connecting to Earth & All Beings. It is a collection of 31 nature practices and calls to action to connect to the Earth with intention and depth. It shares the stories of participants from around the globe who found inspiration in difficult times through the practices.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
There have been several times in life I’ve taken risks, guided from my intuition. Once at 29, I sold most of my belongings and left steady work to take a grown-up gap year through Australia. This was considered “risky”, but it was the most exciting time. I met amazing people and feel in love with the natural beauty of Australia. I learned a lot from the land, animals and people of that country. I am glad I traveled there at that age when I was able to handle the outback and hike.
