Check Out Kacey Milburne’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kacey Milburne.

Hi Kacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Kacey. A local Baltimore Makeup Artist. Owner of Kacey Glamour Makeup Artistry. Nice to meet you. I have been a professional Makeup Artist for the past 11 years now. I love my job.

The passion really started for me 23 years ago with a trip to Sephora in Time Square in New York City. My mom took a middle school aged me to the big apple. I owe my career, and much more to my mom. She encouraged me to try something I didn’t think I’d like. The Sephora employee put green eyeshadow and dark green eyeliner on me, and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Here I am now with major fashion shows, award shows, photoshoots, hundreds of weddings, and thousands of clients under my belt today. The trajectory of life can be crazy sometimes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a Makeup Artist is an amazing job. Of course, there have been obstacles. It wouldn’t be a human experience if there wasn’t. I think a struggle I had as an artist was feeling very stuck in a certain type of makeup style. I do a lot of weddings, which I love to do, but I am a creative. I really had to set my sights out for other types of opportunities to create. Nothing just falls in your lap. I would reach out to models, photographers, other makeup artists, and friends to collaborate on different styles. I attended makeup school, for the second time, to update my knowledge and techniques. I signed up for different types of events. It was a great way for exploration. My advice would be to never stop learning or trying new things in your craft. Do not let it become mundane.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist. It is such an enjoyable and rewarding profession. I am involved in some peoples most important day of their life. I specialize in weddings. Weddings are my primary work. I have done over 400 by now.

I’m really proud of myself for helping people feel beautiful. I just love when my clients are happy and feeling confident about themselves. Even if it is just for the day. It is a day that they won’t forget.

What am I known for? Possibly my bubbly friendly personality. Which in turn makes me stand out. I’m truly just having a good time while I am working on clients. It’s like my therapy. I try to make every makeover exciting and calm at the same time. Positive energy really helps set the tone. It’s so fun being the hype woman for others. There are so many talented artists out there, but no one has my personal je ne sais quoi.

Inclusivity is also very important to me. As a bi-racial women I try to make sure I can represent everyone. It’s incredible to work with all nationalities of people.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people may not know about me is that I am adopted, I am very proud of it. I am blessed to have a wonderful supportive family. My family is very large on both sides. Family is the most important thing to me. I am very much like both my parents. My mother owns her own company. My father is the Vice President of sales at the company he works for. They both are kind, giving, hardworking, determined entrepreneurs. It has rubbed off on me. When it comes to nature versus nurture, nurture is the winner. Love wins all.
