Check Out Jonathan Harris’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Harris.

Hi Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Jonathan Harris. You can call me by my stage name Big Jon. I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and I have a love for writing songs, singing and rapping. I’m an up and coming Hip Hop Artist and I have been rapping and writing my own songs since I was 16 years old. I first came to love Hip Hop when I was 12 years old in 2005, when I first entered Middle School. I grew up listening to Hip Hop Artist such as Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Eminem, Jay Z, Kanye West, Snoop Dog, Lauren Hill, Ludacris, Will.i.am and 50 Cent as their work inspired me to become a Hip Hop Artist. I got so in love with the genre that in 2010 when I was 16, I started writing my own rap songs.

I started by using beats from other popular Hip Hop Artist like Drake, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne to name a few when I was starting writing my own lyrics. I performed my songs in front of my school and even in front of my church and they loved my songwriting, rapping and performance. It was then I knew I had a talent and passion for writing and rapping as well as singing. I was actually on my church’s choir since I was a kid and even led the choir in some songs we’ve performed on stage at concerts. I wanted to carry on that passion by the time I graduated from High School and entered College.

I’ve put writing songs on hold for a few years to go to college where I majored in media production at Towson University, and graduated with a 3.5 GPA in 2019. I started working in broadcasting that same year, where initially I wanted a career in, but after 5 years of not getting much out of it and feeling unaccomplished I decided to go back to my passion and in the summer of 2024 I started writing songs again and began work on my debut EP titled “HERE I COME” The EP contains a total of 6 songs that were all written by me. The songs titled in the EP are called Rise Again, Sponsor, Spirits, Powers, No More and Don’t Judge Me. They were produced and recorded at SongBuilder Studios in Baltimore, MD, while Powers was recorded at Lounge Studios in New York City.

I want to make an impact on the music industry with my music as I feel that despite some good hip hop music here and there, I feel there is a lack of quality in the genre, where some only care about the money, where as for me, I care about the art, especially when it comes to lyrics, rapping, singing, flow and storytelling. I’m also doing this for my mom who died in 2021 due to pancreatic cancer, and I want to make her proud of me by impacting the world with my music.

AFTER MAING MY GRAND RETURN TO MUSIC, I HAVE BEEN SLOWLY BUT SURLY MAKING MOVES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. THROUGHOUT 2025. AFTER RELEASING MY EP ON JANUARY 1ST 2025, I HAVE BEEN PERFORMING AT SMALL OPEN MIC VENUES ACROSS BALTIMORE, GETTNG INTERVIEWED ON PODCAST, HAVING SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT ME PUBLISHED AND EVEN INTERVIEWED ON AN INTERNET RADIO STATION CHICAGO 77.3. I THEN PROCEEDED TO CREATE MORE MUSIC WITH SINGLES LIKE LEVEL UP WHICH WAS RECORDED AT LOUNGE STUDIOS IN NEW YORK CITY ON SEPTEMBER 3RD 2025. I THEN BEGAN RECORDING NEW SONGS IN BALTIMORE IN OCTOBER STARTING WITH HIS DISS TRACK DON’T MESS WITH THE FLOCK, A DISS TRACK GOING AFTER THE BALTIMORE RAVENS ORGANIZATION FOR THEIR POOR PERFORMANCE ON THE FIELD, AND PLAYOFF FAILURES IN THE LAMAR JACKSON ERA. THE DISS TRACK WAS RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 5TH 2025. HE THEN RECORDED ANOTHER SINGLE CALLED PERSONA WHICH WAS RELEASED ON DECEMBER 24TH 2025 AND WORKING ON ANOTHER SINGLE CALLED THE FLAMES WHICH WAS RELEASED ON JANUAR 28TH.

I HAVE BEEN CONTINUING TO WORK VERY HARD TRYING TO HIRE A MANAGER/AGENT TO REALLY GET THE BALL ROLLING FOR MAINSTREAM EXPOSURE. MY GOAL IS TO TOUR ACROSS THE COUNTRY, AND TEAM UP WITH ARTIST LIKE OLIVIA RODRIGO, SABRINA CARPENTER, TATE McRAE, MEGAN THE STALLION, ALICIA KEYS, KENDRICK LAMAR, EMINEM, IMAGINE DRAGONS AND MANY MORE TO CREATE HUGE HITS FOR SONGS I HAVE STRONG VISIONS FOR. MY PASSION HAS BEEN VERY STRONG WERE I WAS DOING THIS IN HONOR OF MY MOM, BUT IN OCTOBER MY GRANDMOTHER SADLY PASSED AWAY AT 89 YEARS OLD DUE TO KIDNEY FAILURE. HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO HIS GRANDMOTHER, AND AFTER HER FUNERAL IN NOVEMBER, HE VOWED TO HER THAT I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOAL TO MAKE HER PROUD AND CONTINUE HER LEGACY. BIG JON ISN’T STOPPING OR GIVING UP NO MATTER HOW HARD THE ROAD MAY GET!

I RELEASED A SINGLE CALLED COSMOS ON MARCH 6TH 2026, AND RECORDED A SINGLE CALLED RELOAD ON MARCH 16TH AT ICE CREAM SOUND RECORDING STUDIOS IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA AND WAS RELEASED ON JULY 8TH ON ALL I ALSO HAVE A WEBSITE CALLED BIGJONMUSIC.COM WHERE PEOPLE CAN CHECK MY MUSIC, PERFORMANCES AND BEHIND THE SCENES WORK!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been good but not without bumps in the road. The struggles for me thus far has been getting streams without getting flagged for bots and trying to find an agent/manager to help me as I’m not an influencer or content creator and not a fan of algorithm data to gain exposure. I’m also on the spectrum with Asperger’s Syndrome and have been since I was kid and I learn and sometimes operate more differently than other people and struggle with certain task that I have no experience in depending on how advance or complicated a certain task maybe.

The other challenge is not finding an agent/manager who understands me and is willing to help me instead of trying to figure things out on my own because I always believe working with the right people is the key to success. With that said it’s been a fun and exciting journey, with releasing new music, going on podcast/radio shows and performing at venues and making new connections as I continue to gain recognition in the music industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Rapper & Songwriter, and I specialize in writing and recording my own songs and performing in front of an audience. I’m really proud of the songs I’ve written and getting a chance to showcase my talents and contributions to the music industry and feeling appreciated about how many people enjoy my music. I think what sets me apart from others and being more creative with my songwriting as I like to tell unique stories either through serious, emotional storytelling and a blend of comedy depending on the topic of the song.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Mostly Youtube, TikTok & Instagram and those have been especially helpful when connecting and networking with other podcasters and radio host.
