Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Parker.
Hi Angie , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My business partner, Billie, and I had been work peers for years when one day I came across a Mobile Book Truck. She lives at the beach, and I asked her, “Would you ever consider opening a Book Truck at the Beach?” (We both share a deep love for reading.) She immediately said YES and the rest is history!
First, we had to find the right truck that we could transform into a traveling bookstore, and from there we built it piece by piece. We officially opened in July 2025, and now we’re excited to be working on our second truck, which will be based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been such a fun experience learning an entirely new business. We both come from Corporate Retail, but it’s completely different when you own the business yourself and are responsible for every decision! We always knew we wanted this to be a women-owned business, and we were equally intentional about partnering with other women-owned businesses along the way. Our marketing expert, bookkeeper, photographer, accountant, and social media manager are all women-owned businesses, which makes this journey even more meaningful to us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Billie and I come from over 25 years of experience working in corporate retail, but what makes us most proud is how this business has brought us closer to the community and connected us with readers who love books as much as we do. We’re also incredibly proud to have partnered with other women-owned businesses to help bring Salty Girl Books to life, and we plan to continue making that a major focus as we grow.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Our families have been incredible supporters of our business, and we’re so excited to continue growing and expanding into Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Along the way, we’ve been fortunate to have many amazing mentors who have helped guide us.
Rob, Angie’s husband, has truly been the backbone of our build , from helping find the truck and installing the bookshelves to making sure she’s (We call the truck Sweaty Betty) safe to drive. He’s already hard at work ensuring our new truck will be just as amazing as the first, with a few exciting upgrades! And of course, our social media manager, Sam, has been a huge inspiration. She’s done the heavy lifting to get our name out there, creating fun, trending videos and teaching us a thing or two about growing our audience and connecting with followers.
