Check Out Abdul T. Sesay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abdul T. Sesay.

Hi Abdul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
How I started was by writing in school. I would write stories, but at that time, in rhyme form. Later, I got into music production, where I produced the music for my songs. Then I got into producing for other people and started putting out projects. From there, that’s when I got into video production because I wanted to have music videos for the songs that I produced. I worked with my brother, Darren, and wrote treatments for the videos. Then we would co-direct the videos. After some time, I wrote a short film, and we decided to shoot it. Then things snowballed from there.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, nor did I expect it to be either. The main struggles in producing a film are finances, securing names to attach to the project, and securing the “right” distribution deal. These things will always be an obstacle; however, the more successful your films are, the easier it will be to achieve all three consistently.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a filmmaker. I write, direct, and produce my own projects. What I’m currently known for is my film The Pushover. It’s a groundbreaking experiment that fuses a dramedy’s emotional depth with a documentary’s raw authenticity. The Pushover is a unique blend that offers the unflinching exploration of relationships and the delicate art of setting boundaries. What I’m most proud of to date is the fact that I was able to relocate to California with my family and continue to work on several other projects.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, we’re currently working on raising funds for our next film called The Swap. We already have two proofs of concept for the project. A short and a sizzle reel. It’s a Christmas-themed romantic comedy that’s sure to bring joy to many couples, both young and old.
