Today we’d like to introduce you to Dazhane Clark.
Hi Dazhane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Boxed & Buttered was born from my love for baking, creativity, and bringing people joy through something as simple as a delicious cookie. What started as a creative outlet eventually became something much more meaningful.
After experiencing the loss of my daughter, Luna, baking became a source of comfort and a way for me to reconnect with myself during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. It gave me space to create, express myself, and find little moments of joy again.
Over time, Boxed & Buttered evolved from simply selling cookies into a brand centered around comfort, connection, and creating memorable experiences. From our signature cookies and specialty flavors to custom cookie cakes, themed cookie drops, and interactive decorating workshops, I’ve continued finding ways to bring people together through baking.
The entrepreneurial journey hasn’t always been easy. I’ve had to learn how to balance my creativity with the realities of running a business, recognize when it’s time to pivot, and give myself permission to grow at my own pace.
Today, I’m focused on building Boxed & Buttered into a sustainable, intentional brand that reflects both my creativity and my values. More than anything, I want people to experience the love, care, and joy that goes into everything I create. Because for me, Boxed & Buttered has always been about more than cookies.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I don’t think I ever expected entrepreneurship to be easy. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to balance being a business owner with everything else life requires of me. I work full-time, manage other responsibilities, and navigate personal challenges, all while trying to build something I’m genuinely passionate about.
I’ve also struggled with the pressure of feeling like I constantly need to be creating, posting, selling, and finding new ways to grow. As a small business owner, you’re often wearing every hat, from baker and content creator to customer service representative, marketing director, and accountant. It can become overwhelming, especially when the effort you’re putting in doesn’t always translate into the sales or engagement you hoped for.
Another challenge has been navigating grief and my mental health while running a business. There have been seasons when I’ve had so many ideas and so much motivation, and others when simply showing up felt difficult. I’ve had to learn that taking a break doesn’t mean I’m giving up, and that my business can grow without me sacrificing my well-being in the process.
One of the biggest lessons entrepreneurship has taught me is that growth isn’t always linear, and success doesn’t have to look like constant productivity. I’m still learning how to create a business that is both fulfilling and sustainable. There have been moments of frustration, self-doubt, and exhaustion, but there have also been beautiful reminders of why I started.
I’m proud of myself for continuing to show up, even when showing up looks different than it did before. I’m learning to give myself grace, celebrate the small wins, and remember that building something meaningful takes time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Boxed & Buttered is a small-batch cookie business specializing in freshly baked, flavorful cookies, custom cookie cakes, and creative, cookie-centered experiences. At the heart of everything I do is a love for creating treats that not only taste amazing but also bring people a little joy.
While cookies are my specialty, I love finding ways to think outside the box (no pun intended!). From unique flavor combinations and seasonal collections to personalized cookie cakes and hands-on decorating workshops, I’m always exploring ways to make Boxed & Buttered more than just another bakery.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve been able to build around my business. There’s something incredibly special about seeing people enjoy something I’ve created, return for their favorite flavors, or attend an event simply because they want to connect, create, and have a good time. Those moments remind me that what I’m building is bigger than the products themselves.
I think what sets Boxed & Buttered apart is the intention behind it. I’m not interested in doing something simply because everyone else is doing it. I want my business to feel authentic, creative, welcoming, and a little unexpected. I put a lot of thought into the details, whether it’s developing a new flavor, packaging an order, or planning an experience.
I’m also proud that I’ve allowed my business to evolve alongside me. I’ve learned that I don’t have to limit myself to one idea of what a cookie business should look like. I can embrace my creativity, try new things, and build something that reflects who I am.
Ultimately, I want Boxed & Buttered to be known for delicious cookies, thoughtful details, and memorable experiences. The cookies may bring people in, but I hope the love, creativity, and connection are what keep them coming back.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say resilience, with creativity being a very close second. Entrepreneurship requires you to believe in yourself and your vision, even when things aren’t going according to plan. I’ve experienced moments of uncertainty, disappointment, and exhaustion, but I’ve also learned that resilience doesn’t always mean pushing through. Sometimes, it means knowing when to pause, reassess, and give yourself the space to come back stronger.
Creativity is what keeps me inspired. I love thinking outside the box, exploring new ideas, and finding ways to make ordinary things feel special. Whether I’m developing a new cookie flavor or creating an experience that brings people together, I want everything I do to feel intentional and authentic.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about how much you accomplish or how quickly your business grows. It’s about staying true to yourself, being willing to evolve, and having the courage to keep pursuing something you believe in, even when the journey looks different than you originally imagined.
