Today we’d like to introduce you to LaJune Singleton.
Hi LaJune, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My mother, instilled in me a love for sports, fitness, and wellness that propelled me into becoming an AFPA Certified Personal Trainer in 2010. However, life, ever so unpredictable, threw a wrench in my plans with a severe knee injury that changed my world in more ways than one. Little did I know this injury would lead me on a profound journey of transformation—both physical and mental.
As an athlete in prime condition, I had always radiated positivity and resilience. However, following my injury, I found myself spiraling into depression. My once active days were replaced with comfort eating and endless hours in bed. My weight ballooned from under 120 pounds to nearly 193, pushing me into pre-obesity. It wasn’t just physical pain that surfaced; years of unaddressed trauma came crashing down around me—from the deep-seated grief of losing my father as a child, to enduring childhood molestation and sexual assault as an adult. These experiences, long buried, began to haunt my present.
This challenging period taught me a critical lesson: weight loss is far more than physical exercise; it’s a psychological journey that involves overcoming the mental barriers that prevent a healthy lifestyle. My own struggles led me to pursue a deeper understanding of nutrition and mental health, earning certifications that have not only transformed my own life but have also equipped me with the tools to help others.
Today, as a Certified Life Coach, Trauma Coach, Sports Psychology, Health & Wellness Coach, Special Needs & Behavior Coach, and a Certified Nutrition and Healthy Living expert, I dedicate my life to those who are where I once was.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road with hitting rock bottom of losing everything. Due to the economy and large lay-offs I lost clients, which I understood clients needed to cut costs for their livelihood. I experienced depression, questioned my spirituality, suicidal ideation, multiple car accidents, health issues, loss of finances and housing. I started back acting and occasionally hosting my podcast Mind, Health, & Wellness with LaJune, which was my outlet from everything mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, and spiritually going on. I started working with families with kids of all-abilities who needed support with behaviors, educational needs, trauma, nutrition, and special needs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
