Conversations with Aaron Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Hill.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My life story in the form of a rap from my autobiographical children’s book called “We Are G.E.M.S.” (gifted, educated, mindful successful.)

At age five my gifts were uncovered by my mother when for Christmas she bought me my first record player. 26 records one for every letter with songs that made me dance and learn my alphabets better. At eight I was good at rhyming words but didn’t know it until one day. My mom said you were really good poet. See it was Mother’s Day and I was so surprised. All I did was give her a card with thoughts and words that I rhymed. At age 14, I told two friends from school that we should start a rap group and that would be so cool. They said yes, so we got together every day and made our own songs in the most fun way. 15. I started messing around on the keys and discovered I had a gift for making beats. I got really really good at creating loops, good enough to use for songs in my hip-hop group.

I was having so much fun. I decided to ask my music teacher if I can make beats in class. He said yes as long as you don’t disturb the other students and this is when I started my career as a producer. Then, next my social studies, teacher, let us rap for our class project. She even let my group sell tapes until there were none left. We got so much respect they boosted our confidence.

In my imagination now, my path would be so clear as a backup to rap I’ll become a recording engineer. To help other artists to record their best this would surely put me on a track to success. I graduated high school in the 11th grade happy about all the progress I had made. I sold tapes made beats and wrapped in school please teachers could see my gems shining through the school hallways.

At 17 I wanted to take my music to another level so I said “Hmm what if I learned the piano?” “ that’s it! I’ll get a course and learn to read (music) and that will make me even better at my hip-hop beats. I learned happy birthday and other nursery rhymes and made my own piano songs straight from my mind. My dreams were coming true and I was in my flow, but there was something that would almost make me give up though.

I wanted music to be my profession and for that dream to come true I would need music lessons plus I wanted to play by ear at Will and that is a very, hard skill. Then one day while visiting a church I tried to play a song, but couldn’t and my feelings were hurt. The church musician came over and said, pleased to meet you then he said “you should let me be your teacher”

I took lessons for two years and a 21 music had finally become my profession the first and my family to be a musician so I birthed a music production company and called it “fruition”.

End of rap.

From there, I spent the next 10 years as a full-time minister of music for several churches while my company fruition music went global and became to this day one of the top instrumental backing track companies for gospel music.

During that same time, I started studying and teaching myself jazz as well as other styles of popular music like R&B, Funk blues, etc. I taught 31 students privately and also taught at Glenelg country school.

In 2019 my new identity became “nervous system guide“ I became a certified mindfulness and meditation teacher, certified stretching, and flexibility coach and I took training that my mentor taught me as a music therapist and launched 5M soulful self-care where I use music, movement, meditation, mindfulness, and mantras to help people with stress, grief, and anxiety, using live piano, breath, work, and nervous system regulation practices.

To this day, the main work that I do are two things. 5M with seniors, veterans, youth and adults with different organizations, both corporate and community. And the second branch is “the Aaron Hill experience“ which is my live concert series as a live pianist, vocalist and improviser.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been fortunate to have mostly a smooth road filled with a lot of great opportunities and a lot of spaciousness to really develop my voice my craft while making great money is a full-time musician. The toughest point in my life was transitioning from fruition music to 5M soulful self-care. Because although fruition music was growing substantially as a six figure business, my interests shifted and I was no longer interested in investing in or growing that branch of my business. It was bittersweet.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m proud of all of my endeavors and currently I’m extremely proud of my nervous system work with 5M soulful self-care. It allows me to put all of my passion of music, self-care, mindfulness, fitness, and meditation into one expression without having to split myself for different audiences. It has also allowed me to really help people in all walks of life in all ages and to do something that is one of a kind in the field of health and wellness.. recently I have started my “finding calm together“ live 5M piano sound bath series, which is alive and virtual series helping people to slow down pause and reconnect with themselves through live piano and vocals, sound, breath, gentle movement and nervous system regulation practices. I’ve recently released my first finding calm together, live album and have started to take the series to other audiences. What sets me apart is my style of facilitation, combining years of being trained in music therapy practices, mindfulness, and meditation, stretching, and flexibility, neural linguistic programming. Nonviolent communication, poetry, and improvisation to name a few.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
The 10% happier app is what helped me in 2019 to regulate my nervous system and deal with the stress that I was dealing with. It was also the motivator for developing my own free 5M soulful self-care app which I launched as a beginning experiment from 2023 to 2025.

Now I currently use and I’m a teacher on insight timer the world’s largest meditation app. This is where I host my weekly Monday night 5M piano sound baths virtually.

One of the books that helped me to start my career as a 25 year entrepreneur was a book called. Do what you love and the money will follow which helped me to believe in my dreams and put the time and attention into them until they came into fruition.

Currently the number one thing that helps me daily in life is my 5M morning method, which is a morning self-care method that consists of 5, 5 minute practices that helped me to start my day physically mentally and emotionally in a very good way. In 2019 I combined stretches that my chiropractor gave me with the 10% happier app meditations that I was doing and after having so much success, I developed my own signature method that expanded on that foundational idea that I had. I’m currently working on releasing the 1.0 version of the 5M morning method to the general public this fall.
