Today we’d like to introduce you to Casimiran Taylor.
Hi Casimiran, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
What am I? I am.
What do I do? Everything.
Producing music is what this interview is for though right? I started producing music officially in 2024 after a horrible horrible year. I asked my mentor, Meccavelli to assist me in downloading FL studio and to teach me how to sample. Now I’ve been making playlists for people since 2016 and sometimes people would pay me for certain moods. My favorite playlist made is titled “Songs and Samples”. It has a cover photo of Darius from Love Jones (1997) pointing to his ear with the caption, “There’s no such thing as new art, just materials reimagined.” I’ve always loved music and the process of it. I’ve watched Genius Deconstructed videos where they have the producer break down a hit songs elements since the first episode on Youtube. It seemed as if the moment FL was downloaded on my MacBook a whole new access to music opened up for me. I dove in.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I said 2023 was a horrible, but very enlightening year for me. The ups were high, but the lows were high fiving with Satan. Producing allowed me to express myself without saying a word & Mecca was such a divine teacher that learning was easy. Anyways, I got cheated on, confronted my then partner, & he began to cry over the phone. It was Facetime…so like…he wanted to make sure I saw his tears. This lit a fire in my heart.
Fast forward to 2024, I put my Apple Music on shuffle and “Smile” by Lily Allen played. I knew I had to sample it.
“At first, when I see you cry,
it makes me smile,
yeah it makes me smile”
Exactly.
I worked for a few hours, asked anaika to send me a scripted audio message, and dropped “Yay, I Made Him Cry”
To my surprise, after dropping the song it got a LOT of backlash. I received several dm’s from men saying the track was heartless and promoted the dismissal of mens feelings. Even worse…they called it ass. This was an interesting struggle because as a producer who didnt say a word on the song, people still expected me to explain my music. This was my second single following “Dont you miss me” which received a lot of love so the juxtaposition was a lot for me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am everything
I am a professional therapist
I am a professional music producer
I am a professional rug tufter
I am a music journalist
I love my life because a good amount of people know me for all three. I’m like Donald Glover in a sense.
Most people think they need a niche. One thing to perfect in order to be rewarded. I personally can’t limit myself. (or discipline myself). I used to fight with myself a lot because of this. I felt like I wouldn’t be able to perfect anything if I kept hopping from trade to trade. But theres a saying, “Jack of all trades, master of none…though oftentimes better than a master of one”
What matters most to you?
Balance.
It’s very important for a girl who wants to do it all.
