Check Out Mike Martin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Martin.

Hi Mike, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Renaissance Rumble was born from the drive and passion of like-minded veteran trainers to
create a place that not only provides world class professional wrestling training but does it in a
safe, supportive, and student development focused manner. For too long training to become a
professional wrestler had been shrouded behind a veil of “only the selected few can do this” or
you can’t learn it because we need to “protect the wrestling business” or worse yet taught by
wrestlers that had commercial success but didn’t have the coaching skills to develop talent in a
safe and inclusive manner. Having been trained in this environment we witnessed first hand the
detrimental effects of these ways of behaving and when the opportunity arose we vowed to start
a place that not only breaks these cycles but produces wrestlers that are ready to perform at the
highest levels.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With any small business the obstacles and hurdles we have to overcome range from day to day.
From the mundane, like who has to clean up and pull trash, to the extreme, like how do we
safely encourage students to see the potential we see in them and rise to the next level.
Our team approach to tackling these obstacles helps to ensure our success. Every team
member has skills, abilities, and knowledge that compliments one another and the training
center. From curriculum, social media, customer relations, business operations, student
development, class instruction, development of services, and scouting new specialty trainers the
team is uniquely balanced to address all of these issues.
Of course, there are forces out of our control, and not everyone has a favorable or even working
knowledge of the art of professional wrestling. But we are confident that if you fall into this
category but opt to take a class with us you will not only grow to love the art but you’ll also meet
a group of supportive, radically inclusive people, as well as do something that you never thought
possible.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The thing that sets Renaissance Rumble apart from other professional wrestling training centers
is that we believe professional wrestling is for everyone. There is no magic formula, secret, or trick to it. We believe that through sustained and consistent training, led by experienced
coaches, everyone can learn and excel at the art form.
At the heart of this is a deep belief that this art only survives with everyone participating. If we
don’t encourage diverse voices and styles then the art form becomes stale and out of touch.
Excitement, innovation, and growth of this art can only come at the hands of new, fresh, and
diverse perspectives being given the opportunity to flourish.

What were you like growing up?
The Renaissance Rumble team, and our wrestling community, is a wide range of people each
with their own rich and interesting growing up story. It would take the entirety of a collection of
encyclopedias to capture all of these stories. So, to save you and your readers time we’d love
for you to take a class, meet everyone, learn their story, and for you to join the community and
contribute your unique story to the vibrant tapestry that is professional wrestling.
